I think this statement on the Blue Square website is worth reprinting in full. "STATEMENT FROM BLUE SQUARE A story that was featured on www.bluesqfootball.com entitled "Stutes struggling to make ends meet" earlier today regarding the financial position of Histon Football Club was incorrect and misleading. Editorial staff relied on a source who was a fan of a rival club, and the story has no basis in truth whatsoever. Blue Square understand that the website is seen as the definitive guide to Blue Square Premier, North and South football and therefore we always try to carry content that is completely factually correct. We apologise to fans and everyone at Histon Football Club for the inconvenience and any embarrassment that this story may have caused." Perhaps other Histon fans feel that Blue Square should do more to compensate the Club for this gross error of journalistic judgement? As one Histon official was once heard to say " I think the new league sponsors are Blue Tacky" !

Absolutely disgusting. Any editor worth his/her salt would check their sources before publishing something like that. Absolutely unbelieveable!!!!!
You would think that someone working in this particular industry would understand something about the psychology of fan rivalry, and make sure that they were not printing speculation as fact.
I am SO angry on behalf of the club, and the rest of the fans on here. I hope that the club sues their asses off for defamation. I can't believe that I got drawn into thinking it was true... sensationalism at its absolute worst!
The BSP have gone down even further in my estimations.

Just out of interest, do any of you know (roughly) how much Histon's top earners are on?

This is the extra irony - "The Blue Square Premier website is maintained by three technicians in South Africa. I hope you all write or email to the BSP top management (see CEN article) www.cambridge-news.co.uk/cn_sport_histon/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=353185

Just out of interest, do any of you know (roughly) how much Histon's top earners are on? I believe I read somewhere that not even the manager knows, as the contracts are confidential between player and chairman. I think this is a good thing. Squabbles over money are an unwelcome distraction in most industries. Football is no exception. Keeping such details confidential and out of the way means the team, management and fans can concentrate on the football.

Apparently on the Cambridge board they won't take that as an answer they're saying were covering this up aswell, or something along those lines.

Well even if no one knows roughly how much the top earners are paid, does anyone know where the money to pay them comes from...? Once again, only "roughly" speaking.

Gate sales(no jokes please) sponsors, merchandise, selling programmes, raffles, the same as any other club. I wudnt know where to start with how much they earn, maybe a 800-1000? but not a clue.

Conference rules state that players' wages must not exceed 60%(?) of revenue and revenue includes hire of premises, merchandise, 50-50, food sales, corporate lunches, programme sales, advertising revenue, TV money, gate receipts.

To return now to the subject of this Thread (why do we get distracted?!) which was the BS Website and malicious reporting, there is a statement on our Club website which hopefully will be widely read / publicised.

from the Board statement: ...The club intends to use all legal support at its disposal to deal with the matter and if required will not hesitate to take action against the individual or indeed any organisation which publishes material which has the potential of damaging the brand of Histon Football Club...I hope Chris Vessy has deep pockets

Maybe as a minimum, a live on air apology to the club. Performed by the perpetrator on Setanta on the 6th Oct when we appear with Webbsfleet.
