An interesting afternoon.
On reflection, I have fears for the prospects of both teams this coming season.
There is little doubt that both Steve Fallon & Dan Gleeson have massive jobs on their hands, and on that showing, neither will be competing with anything other than staying in their respective divisions. But as the forever optimist, I reckon both managers have the ability to be reasonably successful.
Both teams, I thought, had about 7 players in each squad who were adequate at least, with City certainly being deserving winners. Youthful enthusiasm was evident in abundance all over the pitch. I was impressed with City's back 4. Midfield ok, and strikers dangerous on a few occasions.
Histon - again back 4 OK with the new lad in the middle looking a very good prospect . Strong defending and a danger in the opponent's box. Scored the Stute's goal. Lightweight in the middle and up front.
City - young team that needs a good start to their league campaign. Much will depend on the first 5 -10 games. A good start will do their confidence the world of good. A poor start could lead to a season of struggle. I noticed a definite influence from the new manager. Lad Williams superb at the back. Utteridge formed a good partnership. Decent fullbacks. Decent midfield, though not really busy enough. Scoring will be a problem.
Youth now seems to be the key with both Clubs. Just think that Histon need a couple of older heads and City need one more, in addition to Okay, who I thought looked as if he might well be an asset(forget about the past, I say).
Probably, stabilisation is the best fans can hope for this season, with just a little excitement from an emerging talent, maybe.
Good luck to both.
