The current situation is not good. No getting away from it.
But things can only get better here. There is very little to get excited about right now, but what has been said in recent threads/posts is accurate and to the point
Let's get things into perspective. Histon are at Level 4 now. A fall from grace, yes, BUT the Club have got a superb facility, ie the Stadium, and it costs barely anything. I reckon 99% of Clubs would be happy with that, for starters.
The Stutes are now back at a level with other 'minnows' like Hereford, Bedford Town, Rushden & Diamonds, etc etc, so let's not get too despondent, eh?
It may take a season or two to retrieve some identity & respect, but Clubs bigger than Histon have been down there and recovered.
Sad that a community the size of Histon/Impington can't produce a fan base the Club need to survive via attendances income and sponsorship alone, but that's the situation nowadays.
In reality, it's a widespread problem we're suffering. St Neots & City are both in a similar position, having to pull in their budget considerably. Most people understand this. All three Clubs have excellent personnel at the helm, striving to find the answer. Most fans understand this. Some don't, or would rather inflict abuse on the others in childish and half-witted manner. I suspect that the likes of 'Eric Way', a persistent embarrassment I'm sure to the City faithful on their Soapbox, are 'plants' by a character with a serious problem with somewhat more than just football matters in mind. Seems to have an obsessive issue with Histon FC. Why can't such people actually identify themselves?
I find it gratifying that Jez George, Steve Fallon, and now Dan Gleeson are very highly involved in the 3 Cambridge Clubs, which will create a much more pleasant, and ultimately more beneficial scenario, hopefully creating a higher degree of mutual aid and friendship.
I hope for successful seasons for all three clubs. Good luck.
I think they'll all need a good slice.
