I have decided to go to the Fans Forum arranged by Steve Fallon and Gareth for them to explain why they intend to pursue and support Craig Pope. I have read the comments throughout this forum...Citys and Histons as well as all available information from the hearings and folk directly involved. I therefore have furnished myself with as much background as possible to see where this meeting fits into the grand picture of things. I intend to do a 'Wot Wos Sed'...a report on the meeting.
Considering the important issues and the implications for all 3 football clubs and their fans at present...then I thought a uniform piece of information put equally in the 3 domains would help people focus on the issues and not come at it piece meal etc. Peoples consciences from all 3 clubs have been stirred. The race subject is a difficult one. Generally the rules and guidelines are made by those who ain't on the end of this prejudice and therefore they ain't always in touch with what those actually affected think! For example...I had a white Chief Constable some months back tell me I couldn't refer to myself as 'coloured' anymore!!! When I explored his reasoning it had come from a central government Home Office memo to all Chief Constable to have put through their networks! Now...personally I ain't got a problem with the reference 'coloured'...and I ain't heard 1 coloured person say so either! Yet I could be arrested and tagged a racist I suppose for saying it....by a white policeman???!!!
So....there are definite issues...there is also unclear lines...and then there is Football. Our 3 clubs are so intertwined that this issue could damage all...and unfairly lambast some. As a brown person then I thought my views could be considered bias...but i've grown up within a white society...my family are all white...and the only time I see colour is when I look in the mirror! So i'm pretty unique....am I a white person trapped in a brown body...or a brown person with a white attitude? I dunno.....that's why I call meself 'Sooty'...neutral init!
I intend to go to the meeting to listen first and foremost. I do not believe Craig Pope is institutionally racist. I believe he may have said the wrong thing in a moment in time which could have been seen as that if handled correctly at the time. That moment has passed i'm afraid. So...I want to see how Histon intend to turn back the clock to that moment given todays circumstances. It is no easy task they have. I cannot condemn them for trying to keep Craig from being tagged a racist...which I totally agree would be unfair given the avaialable knowledge. I therefore go with as much an open mind as can be expected. I also go to show solidarity with Histon fans and friends who have been collaterall damage. It will not be good for them to have the 'Raciston' tag....yet it will be the legacy of this...because again its easy...and football fans can be cruel with our tongues...can't we?!
I don't know what the format of the meeting will be...but i'm sure there will be time devoted to questions...I therefore would like to gather a few from you all that are respectful and relevant to put forth.

I will place my Wot Wos Sed across the 3 forums for all to discuss. It will help keep all up to speed as to what is happening...and what ain't....according to my thoughts as a football fan...citizen of this City...new inhabitant of Histon...a brown person...and friend to the 3 fan bases!

My comments towards Gareth of late have not been favourable. However...please get this into perspective. It is Gareths own acts that I have critiqued towards Cambridge United and his dealings with that clubs Chairman on the whole. His stance here I have respect for. As a Chairman he has access to more information than most...and therefore go to hear why he has made this stance. If it is an error of judgement in my opinion...then I will say so. If it is something he should be admired for...then I will admire him and say so. If my mind was made up already...then I wouldn't bother going and just put up an alternative message instead of this such as 'he's a supporter of racists and a dipstick'....that may get me 5 stars in the U's forum...but my conscience and ego are not motivated by the stars....my feet are firmly on the ground and looking straight ahead....!x
