Weymouth v Stutes

Long way to go in horrible driving conditions. Ironically it was warm and sunny when we got there. Although the players got a good soaking midway through the match. Luckily we were under the cover of one of the ends of a bigger than average non-league stadium.

I thought Histon did fantastically well to win away from home and score five goals. Damien Reeves looked really lively and Jack had a great game too. This should act as a much-needed confidence boost. We're one position behind the play-offs and level on points.

Also glad to report that young Simpson has had a haircut. I'm looking forward to seeing him play. Welcome to the club Josh.

Alas Ben, I didn't take the camera. Although I think Reggie Perrin was taking photos throughout the game so he may have lots. Spent some time talking to the matchday stewards, none of whom knew the origin of the club's nickname "The Terras". Their mascot was friendly enough and dressed up as a bull. A bull because he is named "Ivan the Terrable"!! But even Ivan didn't know where "The Terras" came from. Eventually though one of the stewards phoned in to the main office to solve our riddle. Apparently it was due to the club playing in a terracotta coloured strip years back. We suggested that they wander over and tell their own fans... or at least stick a clipping in their next programme.

Nice ground I thought. Great win for Histon. Checking the calendar to ensure I can make Eastbourne.

Results like that make all the travelling worth it - and the journey home seem twice as fast.

I was 'Ivan the Terra-bull' yesterday and spoke to you down in the corner before the match. I'm sorry that my hearing isn't very good when wearing that very large head I thought you asked why i was a bull - not the origins of our nickname As you managed to find out, As all our fans know, a long time ago the team play used to play in Terra Cotta and blue- but I think getting a kit of that colour became difficult but the claret and blue is easily available - a good job really as we would probably now be known as the flowerpot men !! Anyway- the nickname has remained.

As for the steward not knowing - most of those are shipped in and don't even no about football.

It's nice to have a totally different knickname as i imagine it is with the 'Stutes'.


Before Ivan we had Terra-Dactyl - which was a person dressed up as a prehistoric bird - but looking like something you make for the kids the night before a school play. Mind you - Terrabull just about describes our performance yesterday

Many thanks for taking the time to log in and post. It was a good day out at Weymouth. I should have added to my post that the stewards weren't actually from Weymouth. The lady steward I was chatting to was a Forest fan. The fans and staff in the clubhouse afterwards were all friendly and I like your stadium.

Good luck in your remaining games. Will the bull be coming to the return fixture at Histon?

Although the bull would love to be at the return fixture, he has other pressing arrangements abroad in Pamplona, Spain - chasing a few of the local inhabitants down the streets - but thanks for the offer
