Definitely not a good day for us today. It resembled a couple of years ago when we went down.
We started with 3 fantasticly skillfull players (Auger, Ives and Nicholson) but spent most of the game launching the ball up to Ives for him to head the ball or him chasing after the ball when he had no hope of getting it. I don't think he won header, not his fault, he wants the ball to his feet, as does Auger and Nicholson. Tuesday night, when these 3 had the ball at their feet we looked like we were going to create something. Today just seemed to be about set pieces.
Hope Ash White isn't out for awhile. Felt bad for Jack Uttridge at left back, didn't have much help out there. He and Evan Key are definitely the pairing we need at the back, looked so much better than with Rumens in there. Rumens as has been shown the past two seasons isn't up to it and today for the first goal, why oh why did he tell Smudge to not go out and close down the attacker who had beaten Max York and was dribbling into the area, madness. Can Rumens even pass the ball, or does he have to smash it everytime he has the ball? Definitely has to be Uttridge and Key for me. Key has really come on as a defender.
Not a good day, hopefully better in the next game.

Leamington were very average today but they didn't need to be any better because we were simply awful. For some reason it seems the boys were told to play long against a tall and physical side which meant poor sam had no chance whatsoever. What really frustrated me is that we didn't seem to try and change the way we played and so for the full 90 minutes we were pumping aimless long balls which evidently were not working from minute one. The Leamington defence had no problem dealing with that and to be honest we made it an easy game for their back line and keeper. I do hope next Tuesday we actually stick to our own game and at least try and string a few passes together and run at the opposition, we have too many talented players to be wasting our time with hoof ball.
On a final note I find it very hypocritical of Leamington fans moaning that last Tuesday St Neots were playing the ref. Obviously today they decided to take a leaf out of that book as I've never seen a ref so conned for a long while, their keeper and bench in particular were embarrassing at times. Even after the whistle some of them were still at it!? Anyway rant over, onwards and hopefully upwards.

Well, I saw it a little differently today. First half was ok. Though nothing too impressive. The goal conceded was disappointing. I don't need to elaborate. Second half, Leamington showed what a good side they are. Very impressed with most of their team. Serious contenders for top 6 at the top end of the season. The Stutes are 2 players short of a top 10 themselves, IMO. Ben Mackey. What a good centre forward. Handful. Rob Ogleby ditto. Centre backs will have no easier game this season. Not with just one small striker to contend with. Nevertheless, I thought their No5 was superb. What I couldn't fathom was that with our midfield of 5, all good footballer's, so many long balls were played from the back. Lessons will be learned from today. Brian & Lance will know. Very unfair criticism of Rumens, IMO ewestute. Never like to read particular criticisms of one player. Not fair. Benefits no one. Particularly when the serious problems were elsewhere. We simply never really looked like scoring. And if you don't, you don't win matches. This was just a bad day. Keep the faith. I know the boss will address it all.

After watching Rumens for the past 2 seasons clive it's clear he isn't up to it. There were problems elsewhere yes, but it's just constant with him. Watch the Dorchester highlights, he's all over the shop in that game too. To tell Smudge to hold position (who isn't a CB and will need help knowing what to do) when a forward is dribbling into the box is madness. Constantly giving the ball away too. It's no surprise the defence looked less organised when he came on.
Leamington weren't impressive, they just kept getting the ball so easily they were bound to do something eventually. It does seem that we have a few who love to just launch the ball in the the team.
"Keep the faith. I know the boss will address it all." - Spot on. Some of the football they played on Tuesday shows what they are capable of, as well as the defending.

Have to say I thought the fault with goal 1 lay elsewhere. And goal 3 too. Rumens is a young kid who I think has potential. Slating the lad could ruin his confidence. Unnecessary.

I'm allowed to state my opinion on a forum and it's not rash or a snap judgement, it's from watching him play for 2 years. As I'm sure with everyone else on here, we just want what is best for the club we all love. You can clearly see Evan Key getting better and better as a defender, but not Rumens. He just seems to be all over the place and mistakes waiting to happen. Backline definitely looked better with Key and Uttridge there. 1st goal, needless ball launched forward, Max York caught out by the long ball from the keeper, then beaten by his man, Smudge goes to go across and Rumens says to stop, player dribbles right in to the area and smashes in. Quite a few errors in one bit of play, but another one from Rumens. 3rd goal I couldn't see very well. Not good defensively, especially now as the paper said Miles Smith is off, he had been very good for us. If someone's opinion on a forum is going to ruin his confidence then how can he play when he'll have opposition fans giving him all sorts of abuse.

Disappointing display by Histon against a very competent Leamington side who deserved their win. Histons teamwork on the day was not there and there were too many wayward balls sent in the direction of Sam Ives who was tireless in his efforts to make something happen. Histon win and lose as a team and when the game gets scrappy individual errors will be highlighted . Auger tried his best to create but unusually Histon never got enough players forward to give any real options. A game to forget and I am sure the lads will be keen to put this one behind them.

Clive, I agree with you. I thought Leamington were a very good outfit. They closed us down and stopped us playing the way we wanted to play. This I think is the reason we launched so many long balls. And when they did attack, they used the ball well and didn't give it away like we did. We never got a sniff all game. It's all too easy to moan and blame our own players and tactics, but I think better to credit the opposition than create negativity.
And I don't think Danny Rumens deserves any stick. Well, no more than the rest of his back four. He's a good player, but very young and learning his trade. I have witnessed him playing very well. With Ash injured, Miles leaving (?), and Max looking a bit shaky, we could do with more cover in defensive positions.
