Ridgeons League Premier Division club Wivenhoe Town have signed veteran goalkeeper Lance Key from Blue Square Premier side Histon and he will go straight into the side to play Potton United in the FA Vase on Saturday.
Key has had a career that spans over twenty years, with most of it in the professional game, which has seen him establish himself as a highly-respected goalkeeper and coach, and Histon have certainly benefited from his experience and knowledge.
He started his career at Histon and left in 1990 for Sheffield Wednesday, returning in 2004 to help secure the Southern League and Blue Square South championships.

Good on him. I'm sure we all wish him luck. This'll make room for Joe Welch on the bench?

Best Wishes Lance. I hope that your son will still remain a fan of Histon. His "2-1" score predictions were consistant if not always accurate!

Great keeper and a likeable character throughout the game - pleased he is still playing in some capacity.
I am suprised that there has been no official word on his departure given his length of quality service to HFC.

Got a lot of time for Lance. A reliable and vastly experienced goalkeeper. Always got time to talk to supporters and always enjoyed the craic with opposition supporters.
If you're reading this Lance - good luck at the new club.

Yeah good luck Lance mate. Even if I wasn't around in your first stint at the club I appreciate what you have done for us in the last couple of years on and off the pitch! A true legend and I wish you the best of luck at Wivenhoe Town!

He will be joining another old Stute, Wayne Goddard, who also went to Wivenhoe this season.

Great guy, Lance. He's been a credit to the club. Would have been good to have had some official announcement about his leaving.
He could well win another championship medal with his new club.

Legend! There are so many great memories of Lance. The diving headers, penalty saves, the darting run into Cambridge City's box for a late corner... the list goes on. Thanks for your commitment and hard work over the years Lance, and best of luck in your new challenge. You will be greatly missed!
