From: www.thefa.com/TheFACup/TheFACup/NewsAndFeatures/Postings/FirstRound_tvties.htm Live FA Cup action returns to our screens next month after the TV selections for the First Round Proper were revealed. ITV and Setanta have between them selected three ties from Sunday's draw, with the six clubs involved each receiving £75,000 from The FA's Broadcast Fund. In addition, the winners of each First Round tie, 40 in all, will receive a further £20,000. And the action will start at Elland Road on Friday 7 November, as Leeds United entertain Northampton Town on Setanta Sports 1 - the channel's first ever Live FA Cup tie. ITV will screen the Sunday afternoon match between Havant & Waterlooville and Brentford, directly after the draw for the Second Round Proper, which will be made at 1.45pm. Then, on Monday, Setanta Sports 1 will broadcast AFC Wimbledon's debut in the First Round Proper as they take on Wycombe Wanderers at Kingsmeadow. not particuarly suprised we not on, thought Wombles would be on as there is most certainly a possiblility of them beating Wycombe

It's not really about "big" games at this stage of the competition though is it - Leeds play Northampton in the league a week or so after that game, just can't see the romance there which is what the FA Cup is famous for, certainly in these early stages, isn't it? Clearly they just want to have Leeds on whoever they're playing as they think it'll gaurntee an audience - typical of the "modern" game when it's money over morals.
I thought you were in with a great shot at being on telly to be honest - at £75k for every club on the TV, that's almost as much as us BSP teams get all season from Setanta in one go!
I think most football fans looking for a game to watch would have been far more interested in former Premier Leauge Swindon Town seeing if they could avoid defeat to a village side in the FA Cup...than, yawn, Leeds United yet again playing a side from thier own division. What a snore.

Ey? You're crackers arn't you Gary - not a clue what you were trying to say there...!
It just goes to underline in my mind how out of touch Setanta are with the fans of the game - they are providing some decent coverage of our division but the disregard for supporters contunied unabaited...picking Leeds vs Northampton just underlines how little understanding they have of the history, tradition and romance of the FA Cup early rounds.

It's crazy. Histon V Swindon. A village conference side against established league opponents.
OR
Leeds Northampton. A has-been side and a bunch of old cobblers.
I know which one I would choose

At least it not being on TV should ensure a 3K+ gate - should make for a good atmosphere

yeah, but we lose out on £75K, an amount that we wouldn't get even with a 6k gate.

Well said Will and all. Typical Leeds being on ok know they`ll probably have 20,000+ there but really would have been great to see the stutes live in R1 !!

If we beat Swindon Town may have a chance then with a home draw.
