Dear All,
By now you will have read the news that Histon FC has canceled the away match with Colwyn Bay FC today. The press is reporting that the club has financial issues and will be making a statement on Monday. Neil Davies, a director at the club, has called for "patience from fans" amid concerns over Histon's future until a further announcement is made. Dennis Greene was notified that there was a problem, but has had no further communication from the Board.
I, like you, are probably surprised and devastated to hear of the current situation. This is our club which we have supported in both the good and bad times. We have all stood through the rain and cold to see our team beaten. We have nevertheless come back for the next match to see some spectacular play and some goals that will be ingrained in our memories forever. We have a youth team that is knocking the daylights out of the competition, such as Crawley Town in R2 of the Youth cup this week. They now face the likes of Bradford and all their backing. Those parents much be so proud of their sons and quite rightly so. We all are.
It is natural for us all to feel sad that this is the reality of our club right now as we try to fathom out what is happening. We are left to guess the situation.
As part of HIST (Histon Independent Supporters Trust) which now represents over 80 members in its first year of existence, we will do all we can for the club, especially if it helps to keep football in our area. We have already funded pitch maintenance, assisted in the preparation of the Steve Fallon night, and funded the Junior Stutes initiative to get membership out to every school within the local community so that youngsters can experience their local football cheaply and get to know Histon FC and its players.
Unfortunately HIST had no warning of this situation. We don’t know how extensive the problem is and in what form it has taken. We can only speculate.
We have had numerous calls with each other today and with the blessing of our supporters, would be glad to financially help. But we are not sure whether this is the issue or whether our bank account will have little effect on the financial challenges the club has right now. We have had no communication from the club.
We will keep exploring the avenues. But until we can understand the situation, we are only guessing.
We will keep trying to understand the situation. But like you we may have to wait until Monday.
Yours sincerely,
Keith Nichols
Deputy Chairman
