Hi All
I'm back in Blighty and looking forward to the match at the weekend. The New York Marathon was the most difficult thing I've ever done, but also probably one of the best days of my life. It was a fantastic experience from start to finish.
It's difficult to explain the pain of the last 9 miles when you can hear your legs crunching. I'd been doing OK up until then, so my time suffered, but there was absolutely no way I was going to quit. Managed to finally cross the line on 6 hours and promised never again. It's amazing what a couple of beers can do to your pain threshold.... my mate and I are now planning to run the Berlin Marathon in October next year. I'd like to smash 5 hours but I'll do it again in a Histon top.
Had loads of comments from the yanks about the top - people wanting to know which team it was. Several people though it was AC Milan. I told them "Aye, we're kind of the AC Milan of Cambridgeshire!" Hopefully got lots of photos of me in the Histon top and I'll post them once they're registered on the official marathon site. I'm off to sleep it all off now. See you at the match on Saturday... you'll find me in the bar at half time!!!
Many thanks to you all for the good wishes and the support. A massive thank you to those who kindly sponsored me - Jumma, you're a star... thanks for sorting out the players' whip-round. I still need to count the total from various sources but I think it's now well over £4,000 raised for the Children With Leukaemia charity. That is fantastic so thank you all. Fund is still open for a little while at www.fghonline.co.uk (click on Candles).
FGH... as they now say in the New York City bars.
