Match of the Day just finishing so I thought I'd check the reaction to todays game. Much to my surprise there was none, zilch, zero, nowt, nothing! I don't know if it is lack of support or interest or both so I thought I'd give my two penneth worth, not that anyone will be interested by the look of things.
Were we any good, no not really, were Eversham any good? We've played better, we've played worse - left winger was a bit tricky but Enol had no real saves to make but neither did 'Brad Guzan' at the other end. The only two players to come out with any credit, in my worthless opinion, were McGeorge & Reynolds. As for the substitutions the wrong Matty was brought on and as for pushing for the win, as the home side, the second two were surprising to say the least. We had players on the bench who could make a difference and we effectively bring on two defenders, hardly game changers!
So disappointed, yes, concerned about the replay, yes.
This is the FA Cup in case you've forgotten, past results, clean sheets, mean nothing, especially on this performance. Just play the best bloody team and bloody well go for it! Come on you Stutes!!!

Offensively histon were poor, lacking strong experienced clever front players, good at holding ball up, and putting the opposition under some sustained pressure. As well as histon played in midfield and defence they are under constant pressure for the entire match through poor forward play, the better players are in midfield and defence, sadly they are being stretched and having to overplay, credit to them they preform very well, hoping histon address goal scoring area of pitch.

It just isn't very enjoyable at the moment to watch the Stutes. We struggle to score and don't play enjoyable football to watch. Just launching the ball forward. My son didn't enjoy watching yesterday and neither did I really, leaving feeling bored/let down doesn't exactly want to make you want to come on here and discuss the team or game. Hopefully as things settle down the team can start to play some nice football and not this long stuff.

Some 0-0 draws are exciting engaging affairs. This one was NOT. Poor game. We had the ball in good positions and just kept giving it away with poor passes. A mixture of poor decision making and poor technique. And too many long balls forward, a habit which seems to be creeping into our game as we come under pressure. We were restricted to a handfull of shots from outside the box. However, we kept out shape well and defensively looked solid, only individual mistakes causing us problems. I think we could have played until midnight and kept it at 0-0.
Evesham were just as lackluster as us and I think we can beat them in the replay. I don't think we can play that poorly again.

We have a home tie against Chalfont St Peter, if we can win the replay.

Come one lads. A win tonight against lower league opposition, and a win in the next round at home against lower league opposition, and the Club will be £12,000 better off. That's a major windfall in these tough times.
There are signs are us building confidence, so let's cement it with a good away win.

Couldnt go but theres no getting around it, thats a poor result ! Had a good tie in the next round as well but we ve blown it. It would have meant the club could have got some invaluable funds but there we go, another year another poor cup run. Just really hope we can kick on in the league now.

They were better than us, simple as! Not difficult when we are playing pub football. Lets just whack it up field and hope we get a bit lucky, magic! They were first to everything, not difficult when a few of our players aren't up for a battle. Poor defensively, for all three goals, the right back an accident waiting to happen - just how may fouls does he give away??? The subs, for once, did actually make a difference. NOTE: If we are going to get beat can we at least go down playing football on the floor, the right way!! Our defence launch it virtually every time We are not set up for a long ball side but we can cause problems when we play, the management seem to have forgotten that; or they don't have faith in their players
Either way something has to change. Poole on Sat - the mind boggles!!!!!

Couldn't get home from work in time, glad I didn't now. Fair enough if we lose to a team that played better than us and we've gone down fighting and trying to knock the ball around a bit and play nice football, but this long ball stuff is awful. No wonder we lose so many games, wack it forward and hope for a mistake from the defence or a bit of skill from someone, rubbish! The Glassworld is a big pitch and should be enough space for our players to knock the ball about and cut teams apart, but no. Last season we played some quality stuff at the start and were near a playoff spot, then it went downhill sharply after a few months when we started wacking the ball long all the time, coincidence? I think not. Surely something can be done to get us back to knocking the ball around on the floor. Having a word with the defence too would be nice.
I agree with histonne, something does have to change, only one way we're going at the minute, even with a win over Weymouth. Don't particularly fancy going to the Dorchester game at the moment.

"I don't know if it is lack of support or interest or both so I thought I'd give my two penneth worth, not that anyone will be interested by the look of things."In life Histonne...it is always 'the few' that get things done or care...I find!x I have not been reading the site or any football site for some weeks! Busy in Scotland during the vote and then holiday and well....busy!x I did click this link by mistake this morning as it is next to my Facebook page and was about to upload the next episode of Amber & Black.....and i'm glad I did click by mistake and read this thread.......the only thread to read since I last came some weeks back.....because I can share this!x If you don't know....the Amber & Black shows were made 12 years ago following John Beck as U's Manager. I hadn't seen the shows myself for 12 years either....and I have been gobsmacked by how much 'quality' and 'timeless' information we got out of John Beck and other Managers for the show! Your 'long ball' comments along with the others is something we all dread....suffer on occasion....and yes.....it ain't football in the purist sense! BUT...I have re-listened to JB's comments on the matter and when and why he applied it back then....and......and....it makes sense! If I apply your current squad...predicament on and off the field...to the conundrum then it is an option......which may be being forced onto Brian through circumstance!x Yes...it's a numbers game.....but i've also seen teams...including a U's JB one...go try play football and be decimated...!x Brian has been around long enuff to 'know the craic'. His approach is the best he could offer I suggest at present....for whatever reason! Trust his judgement....he's 'managing' whatever he has to manage I suggest!x 'Keep the faith' in him and I believe it will start paying dividends....!x If not....then get rid.....and then what?!x Silk purse pigs ear kind of truth is in rder methinks!x Be frustrated....and understanding with it...and as fans you;'d be doing the best you can for him....and the club....i'd say!x Thanx for making the effort to post Histonne....it was a looong shot.....but it worked....!x @@ ~ LUV SOOTY X The new A&B 12 will be up today....and I could do with some help! It features the first CFU Tourny on Coldhams Lane for u8's-u15's....back in 2001!! There are loooads of kids featured and indeed some great action by them all! However....I haven't got a clue who the teams are and where they are now.....there's over 30 teams...including girls involved! I have done a picture montage at the end of the show in advance of it being uploaded to try and get in touch with as many folk as possible so they can see/record...their footage! The kids would be 21-28 year old today.....choochy faces they were too!x I will put the link in here when i've uploaded it and thank anyoe who can help me plug the link out there to relevant Colts teams etc! Thanx!x

Hi Sooty Thanks for 'coming' back, even it it was in error. Whilst I'm sure many of us agree that Brian is between a rock and a hard place your suggestion that we trust his judgment may take on a different view if you actually came and saw us play. Yes the long ball is a tactic which I personally don't like but we aren't even a bunch of strapping lads that can make it work. These are all youngsters that have been taught the right way, mainly by US and others. Now they are asked to play something that is completely alien to them. So what tactic do you think might get the best out of them? Giving them some confidence to do what they are best at might help. Believe it or not but there is some real quality here. Just need to trust them, sure they will make mistakes but it can't get much worse than it is now. I doubt if anyone that matters even reads these posts but at least we can express our concerns here. None of us want to see the club drop down any further, we need to nurture the talent that we have.

None of us want to see the club drop down any further, we need to nurture the talent that we have. Never left as such Histonne....just ain't been up to speed on stuff of late.....consider me informed...thanx!x To be honest....I haven't had a clue what i'm looking at on a pitch after 45 years of watching......honest!x No idea about positions...tactics or owt...on the pitch! Off it.....even Alex Ferguson knew to stay quiet around me......and so he should have...!x I bow to your judgement.....but....by your own admission you are 'close' to the lads...know their strengths and weaknesses...as is CB9...I know......and.....it can make one feel more 'concerned' than fans who just turn up as such. I remember when being 'close' to the squad during A&B....I cared for them all...and indeed took on their views....feelings.....and thought I could speak up for them at the time....but....I was too close.....and sometimes one has to be cruel to be kind. I witnessed that a few times in the way JB treated or played lads out of position and everything. Would I do it different? Yes....but because of my relationship with individuals and not for a 'team' approach. What I do know is that Brian hasn't 'lost it'...overnight! He has applied his skills and it has had results. If you...the lads...have lost faith in his ability....then it is a problem indeed! I don't believe from comments you are at that stage.....and i;ve been through that stage with about 6 Managers in me time....got rid of 4 meself up United....so have a clue as to when 'its over' so to speak....and I don;t get that vibe....on the radio from reporters or the press whose back pages I glance at in garages. So cheer up....step back a little...take a deep breath....and go again....TOGETHER...I suggest! That has always helped!x LUV SOOTY X Here's the link I promised for the Colts teams...scroll to the end and the pics are all there!x Thanx!x.....and yes I am reminded to listen out for your next result!x BRIAN....if they get rid.....u can keep the 'beer fund' I donated....you've earnt it...!!x Reading the passion the fans have...and the confidence in your squad is obvious.....then you have the floor still...i'd say.....!x Go sort it...u can do it....I reckon!x @@ ~

Hi Sooty Just to clarify: 'by your own admission you are 'close' to the lads' - I've never said I was close to anyone. The US I refer to is the amount of players that were Histon scholars, others trained in the 'right way' came from Norwich & Peterborough. The club have their philosophy in coaching kids that way, hence why the scholars and the youth set up have done so well over the years - just need the continuity to the 1st team IMO. Enjoy your football this weekend
