Yes, Pete Clark did play second half, definitely NOT Nick Freeman though. Appeared that Pete had some disagreements with Mr Beck on the touchline from where I was standing so doesn't bode well!! Lets face it, we all know he isn't a 'kick to no one' player. Seems like looking after the ball doesn't go down too well with the 'saints' Looking on their web site he does not appear to have any official authority so why he is pulling the strings only Mr Kearns will know, or his puppet Mr Batch!!! Where do the good footballers go? SPL doesn't seem to cut it! Guess he needs games wherever he goes, so good luck to him. As for Nick? Who knows where he is? Don't you just love pre season? Especially when the club feed has no record of todays game - who needs fans eh?

2 losses from 2 friendlies. Pre season is about getting match fitness and having players get used to each other, but losing 2 games to teams 2 divisions below is starting to be a worry, especially as we are shipping in goals.

Nick Freeman might not be fit to play yet. Didn't he break his metatarsal last game of last season? So perhaps he will be back....

Yes, think you're right histonne. Remy Gordon looks very much like Nick Freeman. Or he did to me, lol !!!! Apologies. Anyway, heard that big Geoff Mitchell has been offered something north of the border. Bit concerned too, about two p/s/f defeats to lower standard opposition, but looking at the players missing i''m now a little less surprised. BP will sort it.

I know the results of pre season really haven't been good, but has anybody been to the games, if so how have we played? Is Lee Smith doing okay up top and how does the new lad McGowan look? Despite the poor results, brilliant to see Ryan Auger still playing, would be incredible if we can re-sign him! The report for the Wisbech game also made it sound as though Nick is expected to come in for pre season training, any news on that front? Will be unbelievable if we can re-sign him for next season. Finally, I think we desperately need a striker. No news on Geoff so I assume he has left and Smith and Salim, despite both being able to lead the line, are both naturally midfielders. Smith was a great midfielder and despite playing up front, I would be far more inclined to play him in the middle of the park with his experience and I'm not sure Sal can be relied upon to lead the line all season - it was only the second half of last season in which he started playing well. We need goals and so far I'm worried that's what we are lacking, as well as an experienced centre back to replace Stuart Wall.

I too am a bit worried at how pre season is going. Defeats against teams at a lower level. Jenko, I did mention Geoff having been offered terms by Alloa, I understand. I believe he has accepted the offer. Ryan Auger is clearly awaiting an offer to play at a higher level, of which he is certainly able. Going to Bedford on Saturday to have a look. I'll wait till the real business starts before giving an opinion on matters. Plenty of time yet. Brian Page will deal with it.

Ah, thanks for your help Clive. Things seem very positive after that fans forum though, with definite suggestions that the signings of Auger and Nick could definitely happen. Shame about Geoff, but hopefully Smudge can step up to the plate and his experience could be a vital asset. Lee Smith is definitely a contender for our next captain too, he knows the club, has crucial experience, has captained the team in pre-season and despite thinking Rumens would be the new captain, I think Smith should get it. Although the pre-season results haven't shown many positive signs, hopefully the new coaching team can pull together, the squad can be strengthened and we can shine in the division and our lads show off the undoubted quality many of them possess - it could be an exciting season.

Firstly, it looks like Peter Clarke has impressed at St Neots. I wish the lad well. Terrific player. He's got a future, IMO. Secondly, really pleased to hear that Nick Freeman has signed for another season. This lad has so much potential. A match winner on his day. Can beat a man. Good finisher. As I see it, confidence is his biggest obstacle. Playing regularly, scoring a few, and encouragement are his requirements. Jordan Nicholson is a brilliant little player, and his slight stature might be a handicap at first against SL defenders, but as he becomes acclimatised, he'll get the confidence to go with his ability. As I see it, fitting both Jordan and Nick into the starting line-up might be a problem. Ryan Auger is the one Brian needs to sign on the dotted line. Don't need to say any more! Captain? Ryan?, Lee Smith?. I would pick Rogan. Reckon he's a leader. Vocal. Encouraging. Right in the centre of the action, just in front of the back 4. Ryan needs to be with him, but the orchestrator of attacking moves. Sam and Nick/Jordan wide. Midfield is the Stute's strength. The squad is, IMO, close to being a good one. Shame Geoff Mitchell has departed. Would have been ideal. Need a similar No9 with physical presence. In the meantime, I'd give Salim a try up front down the middle. Just as an experiment. It might work. He has got so much potential. He's a big lad. Little bit of aggro. And skill. I would like to see a Lee Chaffey type centre back and goalscoring centre forward join. Then a top half finish. Many reasons for hope for a good season.

Yes I agree Clive. A Lee Chaffey style player would be perfect for us, an experienced defender to lead our young backline, somebody that has been around the block and can be relied upon to get that ball out. An out and out number 9 is CRUCIAL. Lee Smiths experience would make him perfect in the middle of the park, to tutor the likes of Curtis and, hopefully, fingers crossed, Ryan Auger. Rogan as captain would certainly be interesting!!! I think his leadership qualities would make him a great captain but his discipline could let him down - with the most red cards in the squad last year, maybe he wouldn't be a good example to the younger players, but at the same time it's great to have somebody like Rogan who expresses his determination and fighting spirit in every game - him, smudge and rumens are the contenders for me, unless we bring in an experienced centre half. I'd also like to see an experienced goalkeeper to come in as back up to Denzel, to take him under his wing a bit and have two quality GK's in the team. Sal could be used as the number 9, but I'm not convinced he os fully prepared to have all that expectation on his shoulders and the pressure could be two much, but he'd be a perfect understudy to an out and out number 9.

Mildenhall match report from club website
MILDENHALL TOWN 1 HISTON 3
Two first half goals for Sam Ives and another from Salim Relizani were enough for victory at Recreation Way last night.
Manager Brian Page fielded a strong starting XI as the pre-season build up continued and Ives struck in the 24th minute, controlling Ashley White’s centre well in the 6 yard box and firing high into the net past the home keeper. Ives doubled the lead, and his own tally ten minutes later following Salim Relizani’s strong run down the right hand side, firing home the wide man’s cross into the far corner.
Relizani got on the scoresheet himself a couple of minutes later, heading home White’s cross to put Histon 3 up.
HT: Mildenhall Town 0 Histon 3
Page changed most of his XI during the second half with only Jordan Nicholson seeing out the whole 90 minutes. The hosts had their moments and Brendan Brown was forced into making a good save to keep out a close range header midway through the half but Histon continued to threaten, bringing out the best in the home keeper on a couple of occasions. The score remained 3-0 however until the last minute when Midenhall were awarded a penalty that was confidently converted.
FT: Mildenhall Town 1 Histon 3
“Tonight was another positive step forward in our preparation” said Page. “We always said that the Bedford game was the start of the build up to the first league game at Dorchester, and now that we have the minutes in our legs we are able to concentrate on our shape, how we play with the ball, how we play without the ball and how we can affect the game in a positive way. I thought we were very difficult for them to break down tonight. We looked comfortable when out of possession and made things hard for them. We looked really creative for the first 60 minutes before we made the changes and to score 3 goals was another positive on a good night for us.”

Stamford match report from club website
STAMFORD 2 HISTON 5
Brian Page took his squad to Stamford on Saturday as he turned up the intensity of his pre-season preparation with a game against Northern Premier League opposition. The game was competitive right from the off and was a good test for the squad with the new league season’s opener at Dorchester now only two weeks away.
The hosts should have been ahead within seconds of the start, catching the Histon defence cold but the cross to the far post was a fraction too far for the Daniels’ forward to convert. After that early scare the Histon side started to settle and enjoyed plenty of possession in good areas. Sam Ives and the influential Ryan Auger were linking well and offering a threat going forward with Lee Smith and Jordan Nicholson providing offensive options on either side.
On the half hour Nicholson opened the scoring with a delightful finish. Moving over to the right side, Auger found him with a bit of space and the new wide man cut inside his defender and found the far corner of the net with a lovely curling left footed shot over the keeper.
HT: Stamford 0 Histon 1
Stamford started the second half well and Denzel Gerrar had to find a good save to turn David Bell’s fierce strike round the post. Just before the hour mark the hosts drew level, sparking a flurry of four goals in ten minutes. It was Cameron Powell who scored the equaliser on 58 minutes with a good finish but just two minutes later Sam Ives had restored our lead, running on to a lovely weighted pass from Lee Smith to shoot home past the keeper at his near post.
Stamford didn’t have to wait long to draw level again as 5 minutes later Dan Clements found himself clear and finished well past Gerrar to make it 2-2.
Histon’s supporters were treated to a beauty of a goal just four minutes later when Sam Ives showed masterly control to bring the ball down on the edge of the area and turn in one movement to create space for himself before driving home into the far corner across the keeper. A quality goal to restore the Histon lead at 3-2.
By this time Page had made a number of changes to his side and would have been pleased to see his team continue to push forward and control the game. With just over ten minutes left Ives took advantage of a couple of ricochets off defenders and found himself again with space in the area and he seized his hat trick opportunity without hesitation to put us 4-2 up. Ives could have added to his own tally a minute later but was brought down just inside the area and the Referee awarded a spot kick. Lee Smith stepped up to confidently convert and make it 5-2.
This was a competitive game that had an edge to it and both sides will surely benefit from such a decent work out so close to the new season. Page will have been delighted to see his team look such a threat going forward with Ives, Auger, Nicholson, Smith and Meacher working well together as an attacking unit, and with last season’s top scorer Nick Freeman still to return the side looks to be shaping up well in front of a solid looking defence and the midfield dynamism of McGeorge and McGowan.
FT: Stamford 2 Histon 5
“This was a really good test for us” said Page. “From the start the game was played like a league game and the intensity was high throughout. It was pleasing to see us look solid as a team and to cause Stamford real problems when we had the ball. There are still areas we need to improve on but I have to be happy with the way the game went and the quality we showed.”
Histon: Denzel Gerrar, Max York, Ashley White, Evan Key, Danny Rumens, Rogan McGeorge, Lee Smith, Tom McGowan, Sam Ives, Ryan Auger, Jordan Nicholson.
Subs (all used): Brendan Brown, Curtis Fulcher, Miles Smith, Jack Uttridge, Matthew Meacher.
Histon scorers: Nicholson (30), Ives (60, 70, 79), L. Smith (80 pen)
