In all my years of watching the team, I've never seen us capitulate like we did last night. They just ran and passed their way past us at will. We had no defensive midfield and no fight. Without the ball we were dreadful. Having said that, being 5 down after 20 minutes I thought we showed great character just to keep going, and we did slowly tighten up, improve and get back into the match. I don't think it was a lack of effort, more a lack of knowhow and experience. Poole are a very good side at this level, but we need to be able to compete better and not get embarrassed. We looked dangerous when we got the ball down and played. And we perhaps deserved a goal or two. But Poole could easily have scored 10+ goals and it wouldn't have flattered them.

At times we looked a shambles defensively. They did well to tighten up as the game went on as you say, but it's not saying much after how bad it was at the start. Could have maybe scored one, did we deserve one? Another awful showing.

We weren't fit or fast enough and ultimately got dragged around the pitch chasing shadows and not getting anywhere close. I remember listening to a phone interview with Brian after the Kettering game that the team hadn't trained since the Hitchin game due to inefficient funds for a training venue which for a team this level is absolutely shocking. Not that I'm making an excuse for last night but it probably contributed. I am lead to believe they are back training once a week which isn't great but it's better than nothing.
Not sure whether this is true or not but I heard murmurings that the dressing down they got after the Hardwick game was not well received by the majority of the players. If this is true then what did they expect? A pat on the back? They were beaten and outplayed by a team leagues below! It's a worrying indication that the mentality is not right. I think it's time for the players to be honest and ask themselves, have my performances been good enough throughout the season so far? is my attitude right? Am I happy and do I want to be at Histon? I know what I would say but it would be genuinely interesting to hear what they would have to say.
I understand things probably aren't great off the field (which club is at this level these days?)and yes it is going to have an affect on the players but as the saying goes 'you play with the hand you're dealt'. The lads have to wake up now and smell the air, I consider it a bloody massive privilege to play football for a little bit of dosh and infront of fans, even just a handful, week in week out. I would have given my left nut to be playing semi professional football at any level so I think some of them need to realise and appreciate what they have, it may not seem much for them, but it means a lot to us. I am going Saturday and we better get a bloody reaction!
PS my mom was Sam Ives, he never gave up and never stopped running

Yes we were ruthlessly exposed by a very decent side who had speed and movement both on and off the ball. I understand that our players were a bit reluctant to get to close to their counterparts because they did not want to been seen to get 'done' but in standing off we just gave them even more time to play - and Poole did. But thought we showed a bit of grit to keep going and I still think its about beating the teams around us.
