Rather worrying, this silence on here, though it must be said that there has been little to enthuse about for some weeks. And today was no different, sadly. Things are tough currently, and Steve Fallon has a mighty difficult job on his hands. He has come out defiantly today and told us that changes will be made, though such changes must come via the current playing staff. There are certainly some very talented youngsters at the Club, which showed today in the second half. Worryingly, too many in one go, IMO, but with little alternative, fans must hope for the best and give the lads all the support they can. We must all hope that the four clubs who currently occupy those positions will all remain below the Stutes. Whether that occurs remains to be seen. There appears to be no goal threat at all , and we miss the talents of Sam Ives and Jordan Nicholson greatly. Fal simply MUST find a goal scorer between now and the end of the season. All three local teams in the SLP are having desperately poor seasons, and it is no surprise really that Histon, with such an inferior budget to those that City and the Saints enjoy, have little chance of catching their neighbours. Simply to escape relegation, now, will be a real achievement. Relegation, I believe, would be disastrous, and one can only hope that one way or another a goalscorer can be found to ensure this does not happen. Attendances are half decent still, and if only a good run could be maintained, something in the region of 300 might become the norm. This is a good Football Club, with a good stadium, great facilities, far and away superior to most in this league, and good people working behind the scenes. Plus a good, friendly bunch of fans. Good luck everyone. Up the Stutes.

The team can't score and really don't look like scoring, but they do look like conceding. The team below has something like 6 games in hand. It's really not looking good. Can try keeping the faith, but it's going to be very tight. Surely a loan player or someone from a lower league can be brought in?

Well yesterday was flat. Hate to say it but we must be favorites to go down, Bedworth and Paulton both won yesterday which rubbed salt into the wounds and it has now given Paulton a good fighting chance to stay up. Our goal threat of course has been heavily muted by the departure of Nicholson lets not forget we have been without Ives for some time now and Nick for the past 3 games, if we can get those 2 on the pitch at the same time then I feel at least we'll be capable of getting a couple of goals a game, especially against the likes of city, Frome, Bedworth, Paulton who we are still yet to play and are undoubtedly 4 of the biggest games of our season.
What has been the most frustrating thing of late is the early goals we are conceding. Biggleswade, Weymouth and Sratford have all been gifted the perfect start meaning we're chasing the game early on. Yesterday we allowed one of their midfielders to run the length of our half while not one red and black shirt was within 2/3 yards of him at any point, he passed out to the right winger who was also loosely tracked, he delivered a ball into the box and 1-0 before you know it. If we're to really stand a chance of staying up then the defense needs to tighten up ASAP. Hitchin have now lost twice consecutively in the league to Frome and Paulton, we simply have to use that as impetus to get something out of that game!

Oddly although the first half was very flat as you say we had a golden chance to score but failed to do so which would have given us a one - nil lead, stratford I think created 3 decent opportunities and converted two of them. After the subs at half time the tempo and passing was much better but we must show more precision in and around the box. Not sure how much stratford took thier foot off the gas. Can anyone explain why our midfield and defenders do not mark players from dead ball situations, and often do not get close to the opposition in open play when they have procession. I know this is not happening all the time but it happens far too often to be coincidence and often wastes all the good work that is being done on the field in between.

Let's face it. This League is not that good. Players at this level have a certain ability, as they do at levels above and below the SLP. Mistakes are made, and we certainly see a few at Bridge Road. I'd rather not dwell on the how tight we are at the back, or how we control the middle of the park. These points are obvious, and we are probably seeing nothing more nor nothing less than we should expect to see at this level. But, and a very big but, is that so much pressure is put on the back 4 and the keeper, if the midfielders and the striker or strikers especially, are incapable of keeping the ball, or sticking the odd chance into the net. This is the outstanding weakness. One central striker who can put himself about a bit, hold the ball, and actually score a goal, HAS TO BE signed. Otherwise, relegation will be the result. The return of Nick & Sam will be welcome, but a central striker in the mould of Geoff Mitchell is absolutely imperative. Hope Steve can pull things around.

I think we agree about not converting chances as I mentioned in my post we could have been a goal up if we had of done. Like you I have seen a number of individual mistakes over recent seasons but actually I don't mind that too much because they happen at every level of the game. You mention about us not retaining procession which can be frustrating because at times we do pass quite well, we sometimes lack that bit of know how in the box though. I still think we need to learn to be better when we don't have the ball, with the whole team marking their men from dead ball situations and to give less options for the opposing ball carrier who has to be challenged earlier, before he gets up a head of steam. Not sure other than thro a good contact we will find a goal scorer but we live in hope.

I understand where you are coming from but man marking and sticking to your man are some of the basics of the game, regardless of the standard of football. I don't feel they are mistakes as such just poor judgement. That first goal was a farce and could have been defended better by my village side. Like fall has said there are some good players out there who have played together for a while now but conceding like that is just wrong yet can easily be rectified. Still I don't want to dwell either, we need to have a right crack at Hitchin considering their recent defeats.

Got to agree with all the comments on the Stratford game . Poor in both penalty areas. With Steve and Dans valuable experience as top class defenders they will surely find a way of tightening up the defence. The key to staying up will be keeping Rogan, Dan, Evan, Ryan, Nick and Ivesy on the pitch for the run in as they are the experience that will be needed to achieve that. I think the Stutes need 15 points to survive and I think they will get them especially if they win the six pointers against the bottom four. It's going to be a battle but Histon have been in a few recent times .
