Every fan deserves a 'say', and should not be castigated for putting forward an opinion. This forum is really good with sensible and mature offerings. It's one of the things I like about the club and its fans. And I'm not alone. A few of us ex City fans prefer the good nature of everyone at Bridge Road. It's a grave disappointment to be relegated, for sure, but bigger clubs than Histon FC have suffered similarly in the past. The division below may well be a comfortable level for us to re-group and have a successful season, but my real fear is that, if the club is in such financial plight, the Board might decide to take a further demotion to the ECL. I do hope not.

Although the other half may disagree at times, I do think before I speak/post. I'm going to give you a list of players that have played for us this season and last and are no longer with us (loan players not included). It's to the best of my internet searching skills.
Nick Freeman - Hemel Hempstead Jordan Nicholson - Peterborough Ryan Auger - City Miles Smith - Soham/Kettering Evan Key - Biggleswade Enol Ordonez - Kettering/Bedford Denzel Gerrar - Sutton Utd Peter Clark - St Ives/St Neots Lewis McDonald - Godmanchester Geoff Mitchell - Alloa or Airdrie Harry O’Malley - St Ives Salim Relizani - Soham Duran Reynolds - City Ben Sawyer - Unsure now, but signed from Soham Stuart Wall - Unsure now, but signed from Kings Lynn Max York - Biggleswade Brendan Brown - St Ives Lee Smith - Kings Lynn
Now if you look at that list you can see that most are still playing at the same level or just below. The ones playing just below are playing for sides that are doing well (St Ives, Godmanchester), or have recovered from a poor start and are now in good form (Soham). Now my point is that those players on that list are clearly not rubbish and are clearly not playing at a level too high for their ability as they are still playing around the same level and doing ok. Now if they can play as they are for their current clubs then the question has to be asked as to why they couldn't do the same for us? That needs seriously looking into.
Evan Key scored two goals against us on Monday, he looked like a liability when he played for us for example.
From what I have seen of the Southern Prem, that list on paper looks more than capable of not being involved in relegation scraps.
I don't want to hear about the money issue. If that's all they play for then those types of players shouldn't have been signed in the first place.
If the board take a demotion to the Eastern Counties League then that is ridiculous. All of our young players with any promise will leave and the club will be left with nothing except lads who couldn't leave. I remember watching our old Reserves side when they were in that league. We have to avoid going into that.

Fair enough then, just not sure what a complete clear out would achieve but that's you're opinion.
I do agree with your view on the players that have left. Not sure what the answer is but something is clearly not right behind the scenes. Not being paid is not an excuse for consistently performing badly.
I believe that Brian York is involved in Strive Partnerships our new business venture, let's hope there are no funny dealings going on....

Sincere thoughts are with you all on your demotion....X I have done it all with Grimsby Town as a kid....4th/3rd/2nd....then moved to Cambridge and went 4th/3rd/2nd.....and came back down 2/3/4....Conference. I do understand how you feel....but...it is great to see you all have reacted as is required!x I do not know detail indeed i have not been visiting any football forum for the past year or so.....been busy further afield!x So I can't comment on owt specifically......except assess this. It appears your Board have made contingency plans and are acting upon it....sharp stuff. This 'Strive Partnership'....fantastic...financiers to enable the Club to get an income stream. Sensible stuff. Brian York involved? If so....good too. He has the money....desire and interest in the locality and has proven it over the years. Business is business and i am sure all involved will be happy with their cut. Due to your over riding covenant as a ground/club....then nobody can come in and ultimately build houses as such! So the next best thing issss....to build a useful building!!x It is...and will be to the local Community. Shame such things couldn't have happened up United. Plans were drawn up for it......but still no new income streams 12+ years later. So your ahead of the game....'partners' in place.....and a dedicated fan base to get on with it. Methinks it's a good start for another Phoenix....and yup.....'we'...have been there before!x Time served init!x I will leave you with these plans.....rescued from the skip outside the club cabin. £70k+ had been spent on these drawings...! Welcome back old friend. Maybe we might see you soon as the GW if you can get a day off from your domestic/parental duties, and long distance travelling. Whose plans were they then Soots? Interesting to read your comments on the Brian York involvement. The usual derogatory comments emanating from nearby. No surprise there. Wonder how many of them actually know Brian York? I met him earlier in the season at the GW and took a liking to him. I'm a pretty good judge of character. Was important in my line of business.

Hi Clive and thanx for your warm words!!x As you 'follow' my travels via FB you will know I ain't got time to mess about and say it as it is. 350+ have visited this thread since i posted the above..I said to you on FB recently that I've stayed away as it gets too involved when i speak or act in relation to football/Community matters locally!!!x So....my reputation is intact around the football fraternity's locally still I gather..!x It is Nationwide among 500+ clubs of all levels....but we do take our locality for granted sometimes!x The plans were for the new stand up Cambridge United to replace the singing end/Supporters club Clive. Bideawhile....York Construction and a few others all had an interest but too many ego's among the fan base and 'elitism' among the Board for it to happen. Paul Barry who is still the majority shareholder was 'running' his end from the States and kept putting inept...inadequate or indeed wrong uns in charge! I kept removing them but it got all personal and well.....the plans eventually were skipped!x I saved them...literally....from the skip.....took them out of it!!x As there was no credible 'developers' around and no sensible person to 'manage' the club as is required to move on.....I sorted for the ground to be bought through ways and means and they've lived off a reduced rent and 'status quo' since.....so i ain't got nowt to think about really....all hunky dory!!!x Brian York..? We have met...spoken....albeit briefly. I have been one of his nemesisis i'd say over the past decade or so!x He perhaps suffered in ways like Paul Barry.....using wrong folk to do a job. Some of them didn't leave his attempts our end in a good light. His involvement with City.....was a shameful affair. Again....Jez George...Phil Law...Arthur Eastham...were all 'tools' used by Brian to achieve his then goals. They...failed him. The residual of it all is JG got the Gaffa's job up United for his 'loyalty' to the money men irrelevant of football/club or community. He runs CUFC Ltd....including all the dosh for Barry. I have feed back from every corner of the club where it counts.....among staff and fans......he ain't liked or wanted. I wouldn't like to be in his shoes....but then he sold his soul yeaaaars ago....to Brian and Paul. He will do as he's told....end of. Dave Doggett paid less than George Rolls for the privilege of 'fronting' the rest....including painting toilets!x So I got it ll sussed...and am happy with it all!!x I have been 'involved' intently prior to this last year for 15+ years with all 3 clubs. There isn't an affair....fraud....abuse....or theft that I haven't known about certainly up United and perhaps the majority of happenings among the other 2 clubs too.......being local to each other it is often 'connected' among all 3!!!x I know who all the 'good guys and gals' are and who shouldn't be near the football fraternity. They know who they are too....from me!x Knowledge....is power. I Clive with that power....have focused on fans...Community....and morality during my time. I have survived them all. You know my lifestyle as such.....many only knew my words via forums like this before I started sharing my exploits Nationwide via FB. When the Chairman of CUFC suggested I was 'running' the trouble element of the club.....I had to leave him in his pathetic position. He had asked me to remove JG prior to that atrocious slur. I could have done it.....but he and DMJ Chairman of CFU....bottled it. I was then 'rubbished' and kept away from the ground ever since....and when i know all their truth.....I thought......leave em to it! I...am National....neigh....Global.....and can allow them their space within them walls!x As I said in my original post...I have not had any thoughts...or effort towards my local clubs for over a year....since Man U FA Cup. I have not forgotten you all but as you know there has been a bigger game on a Global scale that took my time available for 'football' matters this last year or so!x However...Blatter has now been removed...my 'contract' with folk who used my services to assist with that agenda is now at an end....and yup....I have got back to focusing on UK football again and due to Histon's plight....made my first stop here to catch up on local stuff!x I will repeat my assertions made in the post above.....my sincere thoughts are that Histon's Board are 'on it'....and the plans on the table at present appear 'sound' to me....and i genuinely wish you all success with them!x I also add this.......if i thought you fans....of any Club around here....were gonna be robbed of your heritage........i'd stand with you.....no probs!x Easy done......just choice...mine!x I will end with this Clive.......not 1 Chairman...CEO...or individual who has gone into United....including Baldwin who floated among them all and was loyal to the money men.....would make any team of mine!x Different league...and they know it.....hence the so called political ban i've had for 6 years now...I leave in place.....keeps them all within them walls and me free to roam the world.....init!!!x Football friends Globally pi* themselves when i tell them i'm banned....adds to the 'Legend' status......honest.....hehehe!!x I will join you for a home game Clive before the end of season......sort it out!!x @@ ~ LUV SOOTY X X

but bigger clubs than Histon FC have suffered similarly in the past. Clive, i'm surprised you refer to Histon as a big club. IMO it is a small village club lumbered with a huge ground and all the associated costs. We rose from the ECL and we will probably end up back at that level sooner or later. Sad but true. I'll just try to enjoy the ride. If we were a bigger club, then perhaps we would be able to get more sponsorship income and a better squad. It's only once in a lifetime that an inspirational figure like Gareth Baldwin comes along and everything falls into place. There's only so long that you can keep pushin' the boulder up the hill.

"It's only once in a lifetime that an inspirational figure like Gareth Baldwin comes along and everything falls into place." Correct Marke and he was. BUT...when the bubble burst that he created.....he was more than happy to jump ship at your demise. Collude with Laws who was then Chair of CUFC....and then Rolls who was the back up plan after Laws...to close you down and amalgamate your remnants with United. He was going to be on the front page of the CEN with his announcement of being made Chair of CUFC to replace Rolls.....unfortunately....I took that front page spot and he was relegated to the back page....and obscurity ever since. His morals....values.....were found out....by me...God my ar*e.....and he weren't any longer 'fit' to be in such a position. False Prophet i'm afraid but did do well at the beginning for you all...no question...X It sounds you have a re-birth with a grouop of new folk....I would be looking forward and be grateful rather than looking back at....the has beens!!x @@ ~ LUV SOOTY X Happy Birthday all!x

ewstute, we don't agree on everything but you make a good point about the quality and destinations of those players who have left the club. I don't know the answer, is it that we have not got the best out of each of them either as individuals or as a team? is that we have not had enough of these quality payers at any one time? Have we used the wrong game plan? Have we had a poor run of injuries? would we have kept some of these players if the budget allowed? or is it just a combination of the above and more. Answers on a post card.

marke, "bigger clubs than Histon" is what I said. I DON'T regard them as a big club, though they most certainly have been, albeit fairly fleetingly. Remember, they were competing right up there in the high echelons of the Conference quite recently. But it's like most clubs who buy their way to success. The end product is always a rapid fall from grace. (See Sooty's comments). As I said before, what would we give to have what Cheltenham have got, eh? A brilliant manager, and probably the two best strikers in non league football. And all 3 were once at Bridge Road!! Maybe we'll find more like them.

Stevec, I think if some or all of your questions could be answered then I reckon we'd be on the way to find out exactly what has gone so wrong.
Which is what I meant by my points earlier on. It needs to be found out why things have gone so badly.

I reckon we'd be on the way to find out exactly what has gone so wrong. No need to over analise the situation. I think it is just our financial debt and lack of income that is crippling us. When we had a decent squad, we we're getting better results and doing OK under Brian. As the decent players left, our season has just fallen apart.

What's your thinking for that marke? The players haven't changed that much. First ten games of the season before, I presume, the budget was spent we won 3 out of ten games and that included a 5-1 loss in the fa cup, 7-1 hammering at Slough. Beat Hitchin, but were lucky to be in the game before they capitulated.
Our results were getting progressively worse before Nicholson left, even when he played and whilst Brian was here.
Look at the list I posted. Those players are still roughly at this level and doing OK, so why weren't they as a team for us? The budget sent us down from Conference North as everyone left. This season most stayed for the vast majority and could have changed games, but didn't and we were still relegated.
Sorry, but the management/coaching was definitely one of the reasons we have gone down it seems.

Ewstute is right that the players didn't change that much . But before the prolific Nicholson left and the other top scorer Ives got injured and missed 3 months we scored 54 goals in 33 games. When these two were not playing after Christmas we have scored 15 goals in 18 games. Goals give you a chance to win games and pick up points and I would suggest that is the biggest factor in the relegation . Nicholson and Ives had 30 goals between them which was exceptional as neither were strikers .
