I completely agree with you berbatov, but we'd also conceded just under 70 goals by Christmas, so regardless of how many we were scoring, we were conceding a lot too. We've conceded 37 since Christmas, so have conceded over 100 goals this season and there's still three games left.

Very good point EWstute. I went to Bedford for a preseason friendly and you could see from that first game the defence was going to be a problem. We won 4 3 but were very shaky at the back. That said I think we improved as the season went on but it always seemed like desperate defending . You would think Managers Steve and Dan would have helped with our defence as they were both very experienced defenders in their day. I always felt the team was set up to attack when at times a more cautious approach might have proved more successful. It's all down to opinions and If next seasons team is the u 21's I will be happy. You know you will see some great football with the young talent we have coming through. We need the pitch to be back to its best next season for the younger players to perform. There has been a noticeable deterioration in recent weeks but then it gets too much use. Do the club really need u18 , u19 and u21.....a lot of lads are playing in at least two of these teams and the first team. Too much football will take its toll on our top youngsters which is to the detriment of the first team.

Just logged in to see this loooong thread and just wanted to say something about the list of players mentioned. Now I don't know what goes on behind closed doors but to blame these players is basically clutching at straws!! The only players that can take any blame are those who jumped ship when we needed them most, Freeman, Auger, M Smith As for some of the others I know a few haven't even been here this season, Geoff Mitchell & Pete Clark to name two. Players come and go for a variety of reasons, I know some couldn't, or wouldn't play for Brian Page, some contacts expired & we basically didn't want some of them. So to insinuate that any of them are to blame for our current predicament is simply laughable. Over recent seasons the club has been stumbling from one crises to another. Those that didn't renew contracts, in my opinion, were smart not to get dragged into the nightmare. The simple fact is that we don't have the financial resources to complete at this level. I hope all the talk of future plans come to fruition but it all takes time. Will that be enough to save us from consecutive relegations?? As things stand we could be going the way of Colwyn Bay who look likely to be relegated from the Northern Premier. Think about that over the weekend!!

Histonne I think you need to read through again. You have clearly not read it properly. That list is actually showing players who have left us and are doing well at their current clubs, or signed for decent clubs. It is not putting the blame on them, in fact it is wondering why those players can do so well elsewhere but not here. That list on paper is actually a good Southern Prem Squad. After seeing the Southern Prem for 2 seasons that list of players should have been able to compete at this level and not be involved in 2 relegation battles!!!
Financial resources isn't the issue. The fact is those players played for us and have all shown they are good enough. So why didn't they play so well for us? That does not mean it was their fault at all, but could be other peoples!

Like I said, some people didn't want to play for the management that was in place and the management didn't want some of them. Football is all about opinions. Some of those lads are cracking players. If previous management couldn't see it then what are we supposed to do about it. No point crying over spilt milk. Lets see how no money helps next season

Stop using the money issue. Even with no money we've had players play for us who are more than good enough for this level and probably will next season if it's just the youngsters playing. The fact is the management has clearly not got the best out of them, either through formations, tactics, playing style, motivation or whatever. That can be the only reasons I can think of as to why the players we've had haven't performed as well here as at other clubs, even when they were getting paid.

Not sure this is relevant but how often do the first team train over the season and has the financial situation had any bearing on the frequency and length of the sessions? I am thinking that players can maintain personal fitness but cannot benefit from team building or tactical coaching etc. if they are not attending regular sessions together. Likewise it would be difficult for the management and coaches to do their jobs without regular contact with the players.
