Well, today it was a match,I thought, that produced a bit of an unfair result.
Hope I don't offend anyone here, but this is how I saw today's match, and how I see the immediate future.
Merthyr were nothing special, but a physically strong outfit, and a typical SLP mid-table side. A little fortunate to take the 3 points as I thought our lad's 2nd half performance was good enough to deserve a point.
Half time arrived with the best entertainment coming from the speaker system and the great selection of music before the referee set the game rolling. A half to be forgotten.
Second half, and I thought the lads put together some good football.
IMO, Rogan McGeorge was the best player on the pitch by a country mile. Great to see Sam Ives running his heart out. Those two were the outstanding features, IMO, though there were others who stood out. The lad in goal, I thought, was impressive. For his age, he looked assured and confident. Very impressed. After Gleeson's departure, I thought the back 4 looked pretty good. And as I said, Rogan was immense, and Sam was a real threat to Merthyr. Sorry to say, Dan Gleeson might be an asset we can't afford, and at his age and fitness, his is maybe someone the Club cannot justifiably retain.
Pat Bexfield, too, I must add, was very good, and wherever he is played, is a distinct asset.
Very disappointed in Joe Carden today, but just a bad day, let's agree.
The strong wind was an opponent to both teams, yet, as so often is the case, each dealt better against it.
So, as relegation is now almost certain, I hope that Steve Fallon stays and as many of the current squad of players do as well. Personally, I would welcome a player/coach role given to Rogan. I think he's a gem.
Be positive everyone. For the rest of the season and next.
