Its sad to think that we may well end up being in one of those bbc sport articles you see later on in the season, covering a non-league team that have failed to win after 30 odd games.
I've tried hard to be optimistic but it's looking bleak isn't it. 3 scored and 28 conceded. Rooted to the bottom with 1 point and nearly a quarter of the season gone. Forget the promotions, our time in the conference (a distant memory now) the cup wins over swindon and leeds and our academy taking on liverpool, if we stay up this season, it'll be by far the clubs greatest achievement!
I dont think you can blame anyone currently at HFC. From the board, to volunteers, to the players, they are all trying their best with the situation in hand. If you're gonna blame anyone for the current situation then vent on the money men and baldwin who were building us up to become a football league side and then... when were we on the cusp of achieveing it, buggered off, leaving us well and truely vulnerable and exposed to what we have inevitably experienced in the past 5 years, a free fall. (I wont state my own thoughts on why I think they took off)
What we're dealing with now are the after effects of it all. A hangover if you like. I know we all hoped for better this season but its clear now, somehow, these clubs, even at this level, have a little extra cash to spend on squds than we do. Still, we dont seem to be living above our means anymore, which will do the club some good in the longrun, even if we do sink to the lowest rung of the non-league ladder.
I'll still be cheering the lads on this season no matter how we fair, but if we end up in the Thurlow Nunn next season, I must sadly admit that I'll find it hard to come by the motivation to remain a regular.
