Another game and another defeat.
It was a game played in difficult conditions against 14 men for the most part but as usual we didn't take the hand full of chances we had. The dugout staff did not react quick enough through out the whole game but especially to Unwin being over run at right back time and time again in the first half which cost us 2 goals.
I did smile when for the first time in my years watching Histon a supporter was ejected from the stadium. I assume the ref didn't like what was said to him or his team in blue!
I think we've got 9 first team players out at the moment through injury or suspension which is not helping our cause but until the players learn how to score goals we will continue to lose games.
We've got a must win game against fellow relegation favourites Petersfield Town on Tuesdays night in which 3 points are vital for any chance of us beating the drop...

Yes no change there then as far as the football goes. Is it a first for someone to get escorted off the premises at Histon? The penalty caused a bit of an uproar but having a look at the law changes it seems the officials were about right in only giving a yellow card. Our player was clearly through and very close to goal when the opponent committed the foul resulting in a penalty being awarded. Its seems only a yellow card was issued because the foul was gentle and not violent. Did not affect the result but in close game if the penalty was missed and the opposition player remained on the pitch that would seem unfair some how. Can someone just clarify this cos I have probably got it wrong (no change there then)

Hi Histon fans!x Sorry to read of your current results and performances....it can only get better is an optimistic view!!x You both question whether it is the 1st time a fan has been evicted from Histon?!x Well there was some when Baldwin lead your insurgence through the Leagues....a costly fable as we all recall!x It did pitch Histon and United on a level playing field for a while and yup 'pride' did overrun some fans temperament and I remember a few U's being 'chucked out'!x I was watching from the hill...along with many others 'protesting' at the time about summink??!....and the evictions were justified based on the behaviour of some U's. However...there was 1 attempt to evict me 'Politically' when Baldwin and Law who was Chairman up CUFC were 'colluding' to remove their thorn....moi!!x I can say this with real pride and joy.....Histon folk...the real fans/people...stood their ground!!! Head Stewards refused to enact the directive given by Baldwin on behalf of Law!! In essence....people/fan power...became the law!!!x Those who 'stood' that day are friends of mine still to this day....they were beforehand....erm....which was Baldwin and Law's lack of foresight and vision! They shudda stuck to managing building plots rather than trying to manipulate people.....I reckon!!x @@ ~ LUV SOOTY X Happy days>>>>> ...and i still have my badge and proud of it.....it represents much to me!x

Had a good first 5 or so but their first real attack saw the first goal of the game (unsurprisingly). They quickly discovered that our right back area was our weak point, which to be fair to Unwin, wasn't his fault. I've rarely criticised management this season because of the task on their hands, but for me that was a downfall that they didn't react to quick enough. Virtually all of the first half their play was going down their left hand side and no.16 was having a field day owing to his pace and Unwin's lack of it (again not his fault). Personally we should have either doubled up that side albeit conceding any attacking threat we may have posed on our right, or stuck Gould back there, which I believe was his position when playing for the u18s/u19s.
Positives for me is that Carman looks handy upfront. Has a bit of attitude and chat about him and positionally he's pretty good. Pleased he got his goal and I think if we get a full strength side back he'll work well up front with Yeomans and hopefully, if he ever returns and stops getting sent off, jake chambers-shaw feeding him from the midfield, which may cause opposition teams a bit of a problem. Also thought peacock and the other young lad that came on towards the end had something about them.
Although we were well beaten in the end, funnily enough when you look back at the chances we had, on another day we could have been level, Allen missed two chances inside the box which was surprising as normally for a player of his quality, he'd be tucking them away any other day of the week. I think McGinty it was, also smashed high over the bar when better placed to score. There was a goal mouth scramble, Carman flashed just wide in the opening 5 and we hit the post. So chances weren't a miss, just the bottle to take them.
Still looking pretty bleak however. For all the positives you can take out of the game, we just don't do enough to fully justify them. Although we don't score enough it is very evident that the defense is our downfall . I fully believe that if we could inspire a bit of confidense at the back then it would filter through to the rest of the side and we might pick up enough points in the new year to stay up. If the club are serious about staying up and competing then they somehow need to allow key the money to get and experience head in at the back and in midfield. We average on the gate nearly double compared to most other sides in this league so I struggle to understand why they are able to field better teams? That's of course, unless we are still being punished by debts/ outgoings lovingly left to us by former club officials?
Either way, something needs to change otherwise we'll be saying hello to the Thurlow Nunn well before Feb/March time and it would be a massive shame. 220 people (give or take) turning out in the p$%sing rain to watch a team rock bottom of the southern prem division 1 and not playing all to well is an amazing effort and proves people are still interested. Just think how many may be interested in returning if we could field a side competing in the top half of the table. Would certainly get the club alive and kicking again because at the moment it feels like it's just existing. Might I add before I sign off this post, I am in no way having a dig at the board and volunteers who continue to put time an effort into keeping the club ticking, you are all heros in your own right. I just try and say things how I see it.
Anyway, lets hope for a massive moral boosting win against Petersfield on Tuesday. We're already 13 points off survival now so we can't afford to be losing these types of matches.
