I was thinking how nice it would be, if the club could amass an amount of red and black helium filled balloons to let off, just prior to the Televised match. It would make somrthing of a spectacle, add to the party atmosphere and be somewhat symbolic of the stutes flying high. Perhaps it may be too costly, or maybe someone could sponsor it, just a thought or am i'm just too much of a child at heart

I like the idea of some sort of red & black spectacle but not keen on the balloons. They have to land somewhere and if they land in fields then animals can eat the plastic. Maybe there's some other way? Filling the ground is a good one to work on. Handing out a black or red A4 card to every person is another - so they all hold them up at kick off. They did a similar thing at The Stadium of Light for a recent Sunderland v Newcastle derby. It looked class - almost all of the ground (apart from the sulking Newcastle fans) held up the cards. Tried to search for an image but all I could find on Google Images was this:

Thanks for the reply and thoughts, it will be interesting to see if anyone else comes up with something. With the balloons idea, helium filled ones would travel a decent distance and wouldn't impact on the ground itself.

With the balloons idea, helium filled ones would travel a decent distance and wouldn't impact on the ground itself. Does that mean that they float around forever or travel to a far off land with no animals? I think we should be told......

Well, some burst rather like another teams bubble, some deflate like some supporters ego's while others just keep on flying!

ftm is right, helium filled balloons can cause serious problems. You can even sign a petition to outlaw them (!) here: www.mcsuk.org/mcsaction/balloon-petition.phpHowever, some sort of red and black display for the cameras would be awesome - not that I can come up with a specific idea at the moment.....

Unfortunately every big club has a minority of idiots who associate themselves. Much like those Newcastle fans who decided it would be a good idea to pull out the seats from the away end and throw them into the crowd where youngsters were sat with their families. Unfortunately I had to watch those idiots throwing seats as we were leaving the stadium (after Sunderland won 2-1).
