Seeing as we want to get to where UTD got to last season, how do you think we compare squad wise?
Our squad;
Danny Naisbitt Craig Pope Mathew Mitchel King Matthew Langston Patrick Ada Erkan Okay Adrian Cambridge John Kennedy Neil Andrews Robbie Nightingale Jamie Barker Nathaniel Knight Percival Antonio Murray Jack Midson Damien Reeves Danny Wright
Utd Squad;
Danny Potter Danial Gleeson Anthony Tomkin Danial Brown Wayne Hatswell Josh Coulson Gavin Hoyte Jordan Collins Phil Bolland Paul Carden Ben Farrell Danial Quinton Craig Bussens Courtney Pitt Andy Parkinson Robbie Willmott Mark Beesley Lee McEvily
1st impressions is Utd have strengthend further this season but have maybe lost 2 many players (key or not) as well as manager etc, will this effect them?
We have also strengthened. I think Danny Wright will be a key man this season as well as Murray. I think Utd just edge it on quality but we have a squad that has been together for a while.
My prediction for final position is
Histon = 8th UTD = 5/6th

I suspect the original list is the one to compare against.
Wouldn't think Cambs would include equivalent players like Patrick, Marriott or Macauley in their squad list - although they have some good experience at Ridgeons League level.
The stability at Histon over the summer has to be a positive and may just provide the edge.

Thats because they will never play. Most of them are crap.
The players i listed should be making the first team this year.

It's difficult to compare, yes they have some "names" but I believe we have the workrate and spirit. Seems you've left out one first teamer in the list. GG? or do you know something I don't?

It will be results that count and how the team works TOGETHER, not the different squads. Its a team sport not an individual game!!

Histonboy - interesting view.
I can only assume you have never watched any football at Youth or Reserve level and/or are not the best judge of footballers.
The facts are borne out in the relative performances of Youth and Reserve teams in the 2007/8 season. In addition, you don't seem to have considered the County FA Youth squad selections, which don't support your point either.
My point was the initial squads are the ones concentrate on.

Matter of opinion, but I would have expected those sort of players would have enhanced the reserve team of last season (last few games with first team playing maybe an exception).
Bottom line is it is unlikely that either groups of young players will make a significant impact on the first team in the next 12 months. Squad numbers were provided to a number of young players last season - how many games did they contribute in the first team last year?
The original poster got it spot on - those are the most comparable squads and the debate should be around those - adding in young players will prove to be the exception rather than the rule.
Ben Amos started for Man Utd v Aberdeen the other week - will we hear of him when the Premier League kicks off? Maybe see him again in the League Cup at best.

If you're trying to establish an aim in relation to last year, shouldn't you use that squad?
Anyway, there's a few youth teamers on that list, Bussens has never played. We've got an excellent first 11 that's easily better than Histon's but you've got more strength in depth, that's what we're missing as well as a 'main' striker.

Now i see why u left Gareth Gwillim out of Histon's squad Seeing as he's very unlikely to feature for Histon all season isn't he....
