Cambridge were once top of the Championship, but ultimately the achievement that season, the success, was finishing in the play-offs.
At the time you were top i bet you were celebrating though, we cant exactly say what our achievment of the season is yet cos it hasnt finished, but our biggest achivement to date is being 5th, just understand what it means to a club like us and dont be so big time. You need to look at it through our perspective!

We are a small club and we have now got success. We have the right to celebrate.
If Cambridge fans didn't celebrate all these little things, then they would have very little to cheer for these last few years.
If I remember rightly you were celebrating on getting to the play-off finals, something which I congratulate you to even now, but you can only expect things to get better, especially after the defeat. We are doing that now. Celebrating our success and hoping that we can maintain or even grow from this position

Regardless of where we are at the end of the season and regardless of what happens in the future, this weekend was quite special. Cambridge United, the region's "big lads" were once only a minutes from the top league of English football. Back then Histon were practically playing on village greens. The success of Histon and the demise of United has been incredible. I will dig out the stats and I intend to publish a graph in the next issue of FGH.
Now Histon have actually overtaken Cambridge United in the league. To get to this point is a fantastic achievement by the village football club. It obviously hurts the United badly, although they'd never admit it. In my taxi home the other night the driver called Histon "a little embarrassment". Made my laugh, but it showed the insecurity beneath.
Outstanding achievement by the lads in red and black. Long may it continue.
FGH.... as they were saying in my taxi home the other night.

''Try reading your own history and see how your past seasons were considered a success even without winning anything!''
Kind of validates the point I was making?
An FA Cup campaign, likewise, can be considered moderately successful after a certain point. A kind of 'whatever happens now, we've done well.'
In September, with less than a quarter of the games gone it's far less significant.
You set out targets at the beginning of the season, one might be to reach the 3rd round of the FA Cup, so if you do that...relative success is achieved. Histon, I believe, have set out to reach the play-offs and presently sit 5th...so that's good...but they have not achieved their objective, nobody has...yet.

Oh dear - the poor United fans are upset. You have been coming on here giving it large for the last two seasons and now we have over taken United you belittle the achievement. Time to go back to your own forum and moan there i think.

No we're generally ok. A point at Mansfield is decent, we've been consistently good for around 60 matches or more now, so no complaints.
It's you lot that are putting the emphasis on being above us, not us moaning about being behind you. Our sights are on Crawley, and top-spot, not 5th!

The clubs targets are to finish in play offs. my target was to be higher than Cambridge which we are doing.
I dont care if its for a week, but at least its a week we have to be happy, if your so sure we wont stay there then leave us to our "15minutes of glory" and go back to bragging on your own forum.

You don't get it, do you? There's very little 'bragging' to be had, right now. We've been above you for 9 games this season but so what? The fact you're above us now shows us one thing...these things change all the time.
You play next Saturday at the truely abysmal Woking, whilst we don't play until 24 hours later, so you will be ahead of us then too, for at least 24 hours.
How many fans witnessed this remarkable red-letter day anyway?

there were just under 1000 fans which is about 1/4 of the total population of our village when you get a 1/4 of your total then it would be time to brag now run of back to the board of your badly supported team

That told us!
We should really know our place in life and acknowledge Cambridge United are the top side in the area and deserve to be back in the football league. Or perhaps one of their own so they rightly win everything their proud history dictates.
I wonder how United fans would feel if they were ever above Peterborough even for one day?
Our expectations last season were survival! we did that with a squad of part time players and want to move on. This season so far we have Reached a play off spot and gone ahead of our biggest local rivals for the first time ever in our little clubs history (even if it is for one hour it's an improvement on last season already). One of the non-league papers even noticed. Some media have even been known to put little lines across the tables showing the Play off spots and the relegation spots and even speak of them as their names suggest, how dare they!
We could really upset the apple cart tomorrow when the 120,000 population of Cambridge buy their copy of Cambridge evening news to read all about United.

120,000 population that would mean 30,000 to keep up with us don't tell me when you were nearly in the top flight in 19?? you got that each week

I wonder how United fans would feel if they were ever above Peterborough even for one day? Historically, we have a better league position than the scum, so it's not quite the same. If you said Manchester United or Arsenal though, it's a little different.

Historically, we have a better league position than the scum, so it's not quite the same. I'm assuming you mean Peterborough? But being a league team they're head and shoulders above you now, surely that's what matters?

Yeah in history united had success but since then they have gone down hill dramatically. I'm a Histon fan through and through but I don't think we are the top team in Cambridgeshire. But honestly I would say we are second or in the top three. United however aren't and that is for sure.
