if I wasn't a season ticket holder, I would think twice about going next time. Mike, surely when the team suffers the odd loss and needs confidence then that is the time that we should be supporting them most? Not even Man Utd win every game. Histon are doing fantastically well currently. We let a goal in early today and spent the rest of the match chasing the game and trying to score. We equalised and were unlucky not to win it - a cracking save by the Lewes keeper to earn them a point. I was disgusted to hear booing behind the goal at the Bridge End towards the end of the game. Have those people actually looked at the BSP table? Let's get a grip lads and lasses... things could be a whole lot worse. Histon are doing pretty well and have continued the unbeaten run. The problem is obviously a lot of people are beginning to think like Mike - our attendances aren't what they should be for a team sitting 5th in the table and it has to be to do with the way we play at home - in all honesty tonight was quite shocking - there's no excuse to get caught cold like that in the first two minutes and have to spend the rest of the game trying to play catch up. Why did it take so long to get Neil off the bench? - it was crying out for him and again he comes on at the death and changes the game. Our home form really has been pretty poor all season. The games we've won against Alty and Northwich were horrible scrappy games and not good to watch. Lets face it if we want the attendances at home to improve then we've got to start playing some attractive football and stuff the canon fodder teams like Lewes. Also it seems we learned nothing from the Rushden game about how to play against a team that have had a man sent off. Instead of trying to pass it about and make the extra man count it was just more of the old lets hoof it forward and see what happens. We played better football when they had 11 men on the pitch. That really was quite painful tonight and if it continues then i can see the attendances dropping even further. We obviously can play well because we did away at Weymouth - just a shame there were only a handful of us there to see it.

By the way, local fan and hortoo etc........ whilst you spend the majority of your time on here and not on your own forum, I also notice that judging by the time of your posts, neither of you could be bothered to go to Oxford! And you have the cheek to criticise our following. lol Nothing like supporting your team eh lads? Majority? It takes me 5 minutes, usually about 2, to check this forum. Being bothered is a bit different to being unable to go, and yet even without us (I usually travel away) there was still nearly as many Cambridge fans there as there were for your home match, doesn't that worry you at all?

We have around 4,000 people living in Histon and Impington so to get around a 1,000 at each home game = 1/4 of our total population for cambridge to do as well with a total population of 120,000 you would need 30,000 for each home game

Agreed, we didn't play well and it was very bad to concede such an early goal and then chase the game for so long. But fans shouldn't pick and choose when to support the team just based on when they win or play well. It shows a fickleness that is evident at the top level of football. It's the same kind of mentality where you see kids and adults walking the streets here and elsewhere in the country wearing Man Utd, Chelsea and (any minute now...) Man City tops. It's the "only sing when we're winning" mentality. I suppose I'm used to doom & gloom and failure because of my 'back home' team. Supporting Sunderland through 20 years we used to celebrate a win like it was a cup final. How would a Man Utd supporter know anything about the passion of football? They're hardly gone a season without a trophy recently. I'm as frustrated as anybody to see Histon sticking rigidly to Plan A each home match. I saw how well they played at Weymouth and it's puzzling why we can't reproduce it at home. I just don't think failing to turn up, getting on the players' backs and booing during the match, is going to help. There are several teams below Histon in the table... one quite nearby too. I don't hear such pessimism coming from their quarters. We should be getting right behind the team and urging them on. The fans behind the goal last night were impressively noisy. It is obvious that the players acknowledge and appreciate the support. Jack Midson's reaction on scoring was to run straight to them to celebrate. That's great stuff! FGH.... as they were (almost) chanting behind the goal last night.

I thought this was intended to be a thread about the Lewes match, so why is everyone bickering about attendances. Histon is a small village, so we're not gonna get big crowds especially for a midweek game against the bottom team in the league. But the quality of the support from behind the goal in the second half was superb.
As for the game, we created so many chances and half chances I've lost count. We wouldn't have been flattered by a 4-1 scoreline and easily deserved to win the game. Lewes were poor, we were much better but couldn't stick the ball in the net. So I know everyone is frustrated but to call the performance a disgrace is just nonsense. Poor finishing and some lax defending let us down, not our game plan.
Congratulations to the supporters behind the goal who kept singing throughout the second half despite us being behind. I certainly didn't hear any booing as someone said in an earlier thread. That's what the team needs. Not people moaning about one poor result.
All the teams around us got bad results against supposedly poor sides and we are still 5th. THAT MAKES US THE 97TH BEST TEAM IN THE UK. So some of us should calm down and put one poor result into perspective.

A look at the other results yesterday could put a little perspective on the situation.
OK we made hard work of squeezing a point out of last night, but four of the struggling sides in this division (Northwich, Woking, Altringcham and Oxford) overcame three of the sides at the other end of the table (Salisbury, Mansfield, Cambridge) and Crawley drew with a side we thumped away.
Although I'm disappointed we couldn't capitalise last night I'm sure I'm happier than United, Salisbury and Mansfield fans are today.

Now the poor attendances make sense...I thought people who lived in Cambridge and other areas were also potential or actual Histon fans

Thanks "ftm", "bennyb" , "marke" , "dcoo7" and "bigphil"
I have nothing further to add to your messages, but I just wanted to say that a lot of people appreciate these more intelligent & constructive comments from loyal Histon fans. (Let's refrain from commenting on the childish matters raised by some other contributors!)
Be there at Woking . Keep the Faith !!
