I know matey - I was joking. I was pleased for you in many ways as I know how much it means to be above us - like winning the cup-final or something, I guess?
;-p
Good luck with things and hope the financial rumours arn't true.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the rivals thing as that is written by Chris Vessey who is a utd fan and a king troll on the conference forum boards.
However there is often no smoke without fire, so i for one am concerned.

The club have every right to be disappointed with the gates. Surely it would be only fair that they'd be expecting a few more than a couple of seasons ago. They've done their bit by winning the Conf South in style. So where are the fans? Histon isn't a huge catchment area but we've had bigger gates so why don't they fancy coming along? Are they more spectators than supporters? Are they drifters who come and go to United or Histon depending on form/opposition? Are they more interested in walking up to the duck pond?
It's disappointing. Perhaps the club and fans need to push the home matches a bit more in the village. There is not a huge amount of advertising seen around the place.

...so I gather we are back to being the bestest non-league team in Cambridge-shire?! I suppose it could be like a yoyo all season...but i'm glad Histon wos above us for Jaspers holiday!x
The 'rumours' circulating aren't new. The financial 'concerns' or gossip being muted has been around before the end of last season. As very few are priviliged to the 'truth' then additions to actualities will be rife. However...the math must be difficult to balance based on attendances and operating costs etc. To put another twist on the discussion as to whether Cambridge United are still a 'big' club...well...yesterday we had more 'guests' than Histon gets in total for a home game! 500+ soldiers and their familiies from Waterbeach/Bassingbourne who recently returned from Iraq packed the new South Stand to account for some of them. Someone has said that freebie tickets generate extra profits...and they are spot on.
As I was pivotel in organising it I will report this...the majority of folk knew of Cambridge United FC and reminisced about past 'clashes' with their home team be it Macclesfield....Exeter or Carlisle! A Major actually went as far back as a Friday night in 1978 as a fond memory of a week end visit to Cambridge Utd!Many didn't know there was a second team in our division on par with us called Histon! So history or time served is a factor that helps our marketability. Certainly upon arriving then the Abbey Stadium does have the 'image' of a league club...and the constant singing at any game supports any neutrals view that we are a 'proper' club if you know what I mean! These things can't be 'bought' or manifested....they have been earnt throughout our history and is our legacy said by others and not just self promotion!x I hope that puts a more balanced view on where our 2 clubs 'status' lies. I equally hope your 'balancing' isn't as dire as is being discussed on the terraces....X

Not the kind of news/rumour you want to hear on a Monday morning. Guess we will have to sit back and wait and see what is said before we jump to any conclusions.
If as Sooty said this was a problem highlighted at the end of last season then i can't see why the club would have continued investing in the ground and retained players when they could have sold? We are still in the same division so gate forecasts should have been similar to last season (although far from ideal). I guess if sponsors pulled out?
In the mean time the only thing we can do as fans is to continue to support the club and team by turning out.

This is grim news indeed. I'll banter to the end of time about attendances and you lot being a tinpot village club, but there's no way this is stuff to be laughed at.
I did seriously try and start a proper discussion about your attendances after the Lewes game, but nobody was keen. I said at the time: I hope the top brass at the club were treating the situation more seriously, it seemed odd that none of you lot were that bothered, and seemed to think that getting 600 fans was not an issue.
Of course this could be a hugely misleading rumour, with no truth in it whatsoever, but at the very least I hope it changes some attitudes.
Good luck. Oh, and I couldn't leave without mentioning the league table...back to earth with a bang!

I think that the only way we will get more people in the ground is by playing attractive football and the only way we can do that is by getting rid of John Beck? ??

We seem to play better football away, which is weird because we should really be playing football at home and just trying to get what we can out of games away.

I would just like to say to any of the United morons that post on these boards so read this and have a long hard look at what they believe in the future; "A story that was featured on www.bluesqfootball.com entitled "Stutes struggling to make ends meet" earlier today regarding the financial position of Histon Football Club was incorrect and misleading.
Editorial staff relied on a source who was a fan of a rival club, and the story has no basis in truth whatsoever." Would just like to thank all the United fans having a little pop for making me laugh when I read that on the BSP website. Unlucky boys! The Glassworld Stadium Related Links TeamsHiston STATEMENT FROM BLUE SQUARE A story that was featured on www.bluesqfootball.com entitled "Stutes struggling to make ends meet" earlier today regarding the financial position of Histon Football Club was incorrect and misleading. Editorial staff relied on a source who was a fan of a rival club, and the story has no basis in truth whatsoever. Blue Square understand that the website is seen as the definitive guide to Blue Square Premier, North and South football and therefore we always try to carry content that is completely factually correct. We apologise to fans and everyone at Histon Football Club for the inconvenience and any embarrassment that this story may have caused." BSP are all idiots. They don't even check their own stories Still, if CU fans get their kicks from saying things like that, then I'm not joining their bus. Let's put something about Cambridge, terrible financial trouble, directors and owners want out

All it seems to prove is that, suprise suprise the website in question has stolen a story from another website, a story which was simply a report of a rumour. All this proves is that the BSP website has been guilty of some lazy reporting. Perhaps you should think a little more before you go around calling us 'morons'
