"Editorial staff relied on a source who was a fan of a rival club,"
Wrong.
The source is a journalist at Non League Weekly. Vessey simply copied and pasted the press release he'd received from this source.

t has all been denied by the Histon chairman. The lawyers are involved and legal action began. Presumably against the sources where this story started. Histon have a very slippery back team.

What the hell does: "a very slippery back team" mean?
Whatever the truth is we still need more fans.

From what i know, Lance Key has been made redundant, and players are being paid high wages for part-time, which is obvious we cannot afford. As for the attendances, A LOT of our fans that come to home games are neutrals and these people do not want to come back because of the simple fact that we do not play football. I'm sure Josh Simpson is very frustrated that we're not playing the way he likes to. Josh is one of the best passer's of the ball at this level, I've seen him enough times at city and here to say this. Murray is also one of the best technical players at this level, along with Reeves who has been ever so dangerous with the ball at his feet.. So until we start playing football, don't expect high attendances. (I'm not having a pop at fal or beck, cos they've both done a tremendous job, but I'm being honest, Neutrals want to see football being played.... Anyway, I'm glad all this administration stuff is sorted out... ROLL ON SATURDAY Histon 2-0 Salisbury for me

Tom,
Very glad to see the administration "rumours" have been denied - it's no secret that running a club at this level and making ends meet is a tough job, the current economic problems make that even harder as people spend less and less on leisure activities each week.
It wouldn't surprise me to see a lot of clubs at this level and above really struggle in the coming year. Attendances are falling all over the place and at alarming rates in some quarters, Torquay saw a 50% drop for a game recently compared to the same stage last season and Oxford are now getting less than 4,000 at home.
It take a long time to build up crowds and to see them grow in the middle of a "credit crunch" (that'll be a recession in old language!) is even harder - we've seen ours go up by 4.5% in the first six home games this season, compared to last, a lot of that down to the fact we have sold more season tickets and are running a Family Ticket offer for designated matches aimed at getting some of those 22,000 people who supported us at Wembey to come back. It's been hard work though and involved the largest mass-mailings in the history of the club to see it happen.
I see tough times ahead though for a lot of teams and keeping attendances up will be hard work clubs at every level.
The article was wrong when it said attendances were down by 25% for you guys though - it's not far off that though, 22% less (home) fans have seen the opening six home games this season than last season, that's a shame considering the great start you guys have had but as I say - it's a tough market at the moment.
One idea we have at United is a "bring a friend" offer - when you can use a voucher from a season ticket (Voucher A for example) to bring a friend along to the game for £5 or even £1. That might help in terms of putting a few people on the gate - the existing supporters of a club are it's most powerful marketing tool.
Will

Suspect I may have mentioned this before but... But I feel very strongly that people should get up from their backsides, turn off Sky TV and stop watching overpaid, long-haired, wristband-wearing, diving Premiership prima donnas and watch local football instead. Not just Histon but every village, town and city up and down this country. Did you see the diving on Match of the Day at the weekend? The theatrics, the acting. One lad jumped higher than a salmon could to "earn" his penalty. It's such a turn off. It's like seeing a fit lass smoking... such a disappointment! Proper football is where it's at! Local football. At this level there is much less cheating and playing to the cameras. The majority are honest lads, who have full time jobs, and are therefore playing because they love football and they love the competition. This means football at this level is still the sport, the beautiful game that so many people have grown up with. You can stick your Ronaldos, Beckhams and Drogbhas. I'd much rather watch non-league football, supporting my local team by attending, encouraging and also supporting financially in a small way if I possibly can - even if it's just buying a replica top or a programme. It frustrates the hell out of me to see low crowds at Histon. I admire Cambridge United fans for sticking by their team. Mickey taking aside, it is well impressive. I wonder how many Man Utd fans would stick around if they dropped 3 divisions for example? Maybe we (fans and club) need to spread the word a bit more in the surrounding area. I can feel a fanzine article coming on... (for those old enough to remember the kids' show 'Why Don't You")... Why Don't You Turn Off Your Television And Go And Do Something Less Boring Instead... like support your LOCAL team rather than some Premiership superstars in Manchester. Ah - feel better for that! Right... what's next, global warming?

FTM, if only every person had a mind like yours the world would be a better place Why waste £40-£50 on sky each month when you could watch live football just up the road. It may not be as pretty but if you can get into local football then its a great feeling when they win. Id much rather watch Histon scrap out a 1-0 victory over our local "rivals" than sit on my backside and watch Ronaldo diving all over the field just so he can score the 4th goal against Middlesborough.

The topic the thread is about isn't true, so theres no need to carry on with it anyway, but we should still be getting higher gates.
