Really? They have gone back to United which is where they came from in the first place. We warned you they would when the going got tough. Your support was made up of bitter ex Us, and your now back to your core historical support - it wasn't that long ago you were getting double figure crowds was it? I have to admire you hfc08stutes.... "you enjoy the company of the people.. what all 103 of them spread round the ground... it must feel lonely doesn't it? I have to admit, HFC always has played some good footie, particularly with the younger players. But we are only grooming them at our cost to let some other club come in a potentially pick the best off for free. Sounds like great economics. No wonder we are financially suffering. By the way, I have nothing to do with CUFC. I often went along to the GW, but the level of football is too dire now (I refer to the standard of the away teams and less about the HFC lads - they are just cloggers and long ball merchants - how do you play good football against such rubbish?). Get yourself back into Conf. South and I will be back. Don't worry there's a litte band of us that often sit/stand in the hills residential or sometimes we're even crazy enough to venture behind the goal Although being at uni does hinder the amount of games one can make! Like I said it's your money and you're fully entitled to not pay it and stay away if you feel that you're not getting value for money. I still go because for one, I enjoy the match day experience itself, yes, it's far, far off our conference days and a million miles off what the footie league would be like, but it's still enjoyable and because the players are more grounded at this level you can have better banter with them aswell. Secondly, I'm a fan of Histon, it's as simple as that. I guess I just caught the bug very early on, just a shame more didn't or haven't. But one thing is for sure, if people stay away then the harder it will make it to get back up the leagues!

It's an entertainment business to many hfc08stutes. We all know if the show is not up to it, the seats will be empty. I respect loyalty. There is still a place for that in being a die-hard fan, come wind, hail or snow. But for many others, we have a hard week earning money, and want to get some entertainment in return for a little cash. It's not asking too much, even by your patriotic standards. So I don't go and don't think about the value of what I could have spent. I think the same feeling exists amongst many local people. Just look at the gates when we were being entertained some years ago.

Just look at the gates when we were being entertained some years ago. Like I said, it's your hard earned and I have no qualms with you not wanting to part with it if you feel you're not enjoying whats on offer. Luckily for me it's more than just the football that keeps me coming back. Interesting point about being entertained a few years back though. I'd actually argue many people thought we played absolute crap but effective football. I'd say people bought in for the success more than anything, which is exactly what I think is wrong with football and is also why so many now stay away. That's what really grinds my gears ... Anyho, I hope one day you feel you can return Paul! I can't wait to come home for Christmas so I can catch a few games. Sounds like we played some good stuff on Sat albeit against bottom of the table and the way the season has panned out our boxing day clash with city is looking like it'll be a cracker and if you have no plans for that day I can only encourage you to go !

I remember some superb matches when Histon was in the Conference premier. Even some of the away matches were unbelievable. Seeing Dan Holman smash the ball into the net from the edge of the box. Even as recent as last season, weeing some incredible goalkeeping from Callum (now playing for England) ... And this "absolute crap" as you say. Were you asleep during the match or what?
Regarding me returning (like a number of us), if HFC gets back into the Conference premier, I will definitely return because of the high class of football played. Right now its young talented lads against a load of cloggers and 'route one' merchants. Now that is dire football. Who on earth would pay to watch that - well possibly 103 of them.

Paul you have some very honest and forthright views and I fear you will never get any answers to your questions about the club. As for Histon getting back in the conference it will never happen I'm afraid. The club are averaging 181 for home games this season and have inevitably lost people to Cambridge United who are doing quite well at the moment and could sustain their progression. It will be interesting to see the gate tomorrow without champions league and poor weather . I reckon 165 and I will get there for a rare visit to see how this relatively successful Histon side cope with Bideford. Looking forward to a decent game as last time I went v Dunstable it was very entertaining. I think the diehards will stick with it but it would help IF the club could be more open about everything as stated by Paul ,Sooty and CliveH recently.

Dear Berbatov. Thank you for your views. Sadly, I think you are so right. I just remember the good old days and can imagine they will never return. Those days were so good. I lived for each day the team played. I remember being greeted by Angelo at an away match. He came over and greeted us. Why I don't know, but it was so appreciated. He had his rough edges, but he was responsible for making me feel like I wanted to travel the length of England to see the team. I could name others too who ran the club and they had their good points. People knew them and they made you feel part of it and welcome. I remember the first time I went to the ground. I asked an official of the club where I could find the gents. He walked with me around the ground and showed me, chatting all the time to me. And Graham Eales - don't I miss him being there. Great guy.
So let's turn to now...I think I will stop there before I make myself depressed....

I'm talking about the beck era of course when hard work and pumping the ball up the field all day was Histon's game plan! As for getting back in the conference, one would always like to believe it's possible, but chances are slim and like I said staying away will not increase the chances of this happening one bit so I'm afraid paul my best bet is, if you want to see a higher level of footie then go to the abbey as you've made it evident that you're not getting your football fix from histon.

Also just want to point out that tomorrows game is postponed! Bideford couldn't raise a team for the fixture, so boxing day is the next home match !

Thanks hfc08stutes for that. Surely this should not happen at SLP level but then there are a few lame dogs in this league. Momentum lost for the stutes who would have surely won this one on present form. On Boxing Day a chance of a big crowd v City and revenge will be in the air . Both sides like to play and City will like that aspect of the game . I know City won convincingly in the previous fixture but I found it distasteful the way they gloated on their forum which is at best uneducated on a football front. Should be a good advert for The SLP and an entertaining game.

No worries ! sympathise with bideford in terms of their location but not being able to field a team due to many of them being teachers and not being able to get the time off isn't really a valid excuse. Sounds hypocritical as we did this two seasons ago and perhaps should have received a points deduction, but the circumstances for that were a lot different! As for boxing day it should be a great game and no better time then now to take a trip to the glassworld! It'll be a lot closer now that we've added players and got into our stride a little bit. Would certainly love to beat and leapfrog them on the same day! Brian will have them up for it I'm sure and can only use the above as motivation as well as our drubbing earlier on in the year. I hope the fans are vocal too, as the lads will appreciate the support!

I'm not going to be there - family spread all over the country - but will be glued to the radio whilst I sober up from the day before. Probably still wearing my cracker hat from the day before. Looking for a festive win by the lads. Best wishes to Brian and the team.

...i've been inspired. I look forward to being there for this local derby....Boxing Day.....and will give a cheer on your behalf Paul...X
Merry Xmas to you and yours...X * /\ @@ ~ LUV SOOTY X
.....my inspiraton has come from you Paul.....as well as from the Chairman of CUFC Ltd. On my birthday....the day you posted the above......he also motivated me. I could write pages of diatribe that would absolutely destroy his cred and well....his very being. But won't. Kind of guy I can be. He got us to Wembley...and with his limited comprehension of this locality and it's history and connections...and ignorance over who are the good guys and who ain't....he has meant well overall. But fun over. Suffice to say this.....your comment said in another thread......"Sod the lot of them. I'm not stepping back into the ground again. United for me. At least they treat you as humans."......Paul....if you respect my judgement.........then do not step into the fire....until it's extinguished........I beg....X LUV FIREMANSOOT X

I agree Sooty that the local clubs have all got issues and United will be the big club that doesn't own their ground. City and Histon will have a stadium that is protected from the property sharks that hang round football clubs. That gives the smaller clubs a real chance but I do not feel confident that either Histon or City have the leadership skills to halt the decline in their clubs that is evident over recent seasons. Your comments about JEZ and DD are pretty controversional and maybe this isn't a place to go into detail. As a neutral who follows all three clubs locally it seems to me that Jez has halted the culture of throwing money at the team and has influenced people at the top at United to cut their cloth to keep United alive . Also it looks like a prudent chairman and a good coach in Money have also bought success as well. I don't see how you can knock the u's hierarchy after the dross they've put up with up the Abbey since losing league status 10 years ago. Good luck to all three local clubs as the future will only be as good as the people running them are performing.Anyone can have a successful team by heavy funding but a happy , successful club is not so easy.
