Come on guys, let's get this forum back on track. So quiet recently. Local interest is the title. Who's the first to get something going? And no jibes allowed about Cambridge City and that attendance last night!!!!!!

That City attendance was 82 Clive and it rings alarm bills for moving to Sawston when I would guess many Cambridge fans will not attend. Football is about identity and moving out of cambridge with no meaningful interest from Sawston folk could impact on future support for City. Histons gates hover round 200 average and when you see St Neots near 500 yesterday and Hitchin near 400 you wonder ? Why are the Glassworld teams both failing to draw the crowds. I suppose both clubs are not having much success but it probably goes deeper than that. There are many theories when you talk to supporters but I suggest the people who aren't listening are the people in the boardrooms. It's got to change and you need a product on the pitch for starters. Histon v Saints on Saturday could pull 450 so let's hope the Stutes can put on a show!

Histon and City are competing for fans with Camb Utd, more than the likes of St Neots, Biggleswade etc. Any fan who isn't a "diehard" will more likely go and watch Cambridge, or focus on them and lose interest in us and City. Doing well in the league would definitely help to improve attendance. St Neots have thrown around a lot of money and are making a lot of noise about themselves, with them doing well in the league people may well go and watch. It is a town too and not a village.
I do wonder how the move to Sawston will work out for them once the initial wow phase has died off. It's not in the city or near their former homeground. If they do well then it may be fine, but if they are similar to this season then it could be very interesting to see the attendance level and interest.
Things could be iffy the next few weeks if Utd do ok against Man U and Utd making fans commit to other match tickets to be able to buy a Man U ticket.
Pretty certain I've said before, we need to advertise as much as possible. I always tell my mates down the pub to come, but the club and other fans should be getting the word out. Advertise in the village. Get it plastered on the internet, get the website looking spectacular (St Neots is pretty decent £££), get info all over the website so people can see. Just literally get word out anywhere and everywhere.

Some interesting points there chaps. Personally, I believe that most fans like watching League football, and others prefer the atmosphere and everything else about the non league scene. United have resumed life back into the former, taking with them a biggish percentage of the 'floating' local fans. And good luck to them. I've been to a couple of games at the Abbey, and there's a great atmosphere to be had there. So what happens with Histon and City with the 'left-over' support. Well, basically, I believe that the Stute's have a fan base that is around the 150 mark, probably comprising almost completely those who live fairly locally to the Club , plus others who used to , but have moved away. City, with this season seemingly written off at an early stage by their hierarchy, and a contentment to accept a mid-table existence, their situation is a bit different. They are clearly treading water until the Sawston decampment takes place. I don't think that anyone expects more than a handful of fans to follow them to such an outpost. I suspect that within a couple of seasons there might well be a name change. The move has given the Club a future, yes, but in what guise? Their attendances have become pretty dire, the Reserve team's mere existence pointless from the outset, and all else there failing to provide any sort of feel-good interest. Like Histon, little or no incentive being provided at Board level. Nothing to lift the fan's spirits during a poor season in a very poor league. But there are still 500 odd keen to watch Derby matches between the two. So, I have hopes for the Stutes' future support, as I think they'll benefit a little when City depart. Cambridge will then have just the two Clubs, so in effect Histon FC will become the 'second 'Cambridge based football club, taking over City's long held mantle. With the GWS being the envy of a host of non league clubs, Histon have 'a product', as they say. With the continuation of the healthy youth policy, good team management and coaching, and financial acumen within the structure, attendances and team performances might take a turn for the better, though that might be a mid to long term outlook, rather than short term. As long as the Stutes stay in this league there is genuine optimism, but yes, there MUST be a whole-hearted effort from everyone to promote and advertise the club in a far more effective way than ever before to get more through the turnstiles. Hope for the Future, in the words of Sir Paul McCartney.

Someone post on here what needs doing locally to advertise forthcoming matches etc. I mean someone in an official capacity who can accept volunteers to deliver posters etc.

I support all local clubs and want them to succeed. Having a fair knowledge of the local clubs it struck me today that I don't even know who Histons chairman is ? Mr Hands left I believe but is there a replacement ? Why is the leadership so anonymous and is their a major problem lurking behind the closed door of the boardroom. Apologies if Russell Hands is still there but as a famous lady once said at Norwich City "Let's be having you". Stutes have a future but someone needs to lead the club before it goes backwards .

St Neots are here on Saturday.,I might have a look around the villages tomorrow to see where the posters are advertising this big match. Again I ask someone in officialdom, if the club don't lead the way, how can they expect fans to get motivated? ??

All we need is a big poster by the traffic lights by the entrance leading into the ground. Even a big chalkboard you see outside pubs would do! Posters in or around the shops in the village, then some in the local pubs. These don't have to be specific to just one game. Maybe mentioning 3 or 4 home games coming up so new ones wouldn't have to be printed each week (cost saving).

I go back to the first post on this thread. It's gone dead, as has City's. I suppose total silence on the Stute's fan's forum is probably more acceptable than the nonsense on City's. But I suppose there is very little to talk about, never mind get excited about. Both Clubs are struggling in this dreadfully poor league. If there were not two, if not more, teams in the SLP that are barely up to a Sunday league pub outfit, both City and Histon would probably be relegation certainties. At least Brian Page's efforts cannot be criticised due to the playing budget he is given. As I have said before, City are treading water until they embark on their disappearing act from Cambridge, and results appear to be totally unimportant to their hierarchy just as long as they avoid relegation. But that is not out of the question. I think relegation for either could well mean many even leaner years in the company of teams many of us have never heard of. As regards Histon, there seems to be a complete lack of communication between Club and fans. Does the Club deserve any fans? Does anyone actually know who the Chairman of the Football Club is? There is much to enjoy at Bridge Road, but confidence in those in power appears not included.

Not sure there is much to get excited about, in terms of "off-field" activities. Unless it's extremely good or bad news then there isn't much to say I guess. It's such a shame that our away form is so atrocious. If we could have emulated our home record then we'd be knocking on the door of the play-offs which would have certainly generated some interest but unfortunately for some reason we seem to crumble if we're not playing at the Glass World. The best that we can hope for is that we secure our safety with a few games to spare. With the very likely situation that we are not going to have an increased budget for next season, I feel one of the only chances we have of going back up is if we can plan early. If this was to happen we could field players from the u21 and youth team squads. This would give them 1st team experience and would enable the management to decide whether they feel any of them can make the step up for next season. Also it would allow for more viewing time over potential signings. This would help increase the chances of getting another "Dan Holman" or "Levi Porter" signed up.
I reckon, if we managed to keep certain members of this years squad, mixed in with one or two acute signings and 3/4 making the step up from the academy, then we potentially have a youthful but solid squad for next season. However this again is relying on us staying up and confirming that sooner rather than later!

Not looking for "off-field activities" news hfc, just some communication . I mentioned on another thread match day advertising/posters. Surely someone has read that. Is it asking too much for some sort of response. On a match day, I rarely see anyone who might be a Director or someone in high authority within the Club. Do they just stay on the Boardroom and view the matches from there? With the greatest respect hfc, I think you're a bit over estimating the Stute's chances of getting back into the Conference set-up. The budget will need to be tripled at least to stand a chance of that. The best youngsters will move on to better things, so success through a stabilised playing squad will not happen under the current circumstance. But as I've said, with the situation being as it is, staying up is absolutely imperative, and that will be success this season. The experience these youngsters have gained this season will have been invaluable.
